Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
This Sunday celebrates Harmony Day, a chance to raise awareness about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. At school we are engaging the children this week in some activities to support this, and the children are able to wear 'cultural clothing' on Friday (please see a Compass notification sent out yesterday). When it comes to values such as inclusiveness, respect and belonging, we need look no further than the life of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels. A parable such as the Good Samaritan gives us an insight into the way Jesus saw all people, regardless of their status and background. He was also regularly connecting with the marginalised, such as tax collectors and lepers.
Each day at school I see many examples of children ensuring that they are inclusive and respectful to their peers. I pray that these values remain strong within them as they move into adulthood.
Down Syndrome Awareness
There are families in our school community who have children with Down Syndrome. The global awareness raising initiative for this condition is 'lots of socks,' symbolising that we all might be different but we can all add value to the world. As well as the 'cultural clothing' that can be worn this Friday, the children are also asked to wear 'crazy socks.' It looks like we will have a colourful day this Friday!
School Cross Country
Information about this event has been pushed out on the Compass app. The carnival will be held on Monday 29 March at Mt Carmel Catholic College. As mentioned in the information, parents are able to attend and we are seeking parents who are able to help during the day. This will be the first school event in which parents are able to attend, which is very exciting.
In order to comply with current health directives, we need to keep a register of everyone who attends. Therefore, a QR code will be made available at Mt Carmel which you must scan in order to register your attendance.
Wishing you a safe week,
