Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
Congratulations to the students who received their First Holy Communion on the weekend. Following several weeks of preparation, the children were very excited (and a bit nervous!). They seemed to have a sense of how special the occasion was and were very reverent as they strengthened their relationship with Jesus. Now they that have received communion for the first time, I pray that they continue to seek ways of expressing their faith and that they are just as excited every time they receive the host.
I would like to pass on my thanks to the staff from St John's who were directly involved in the sacramental program: Miss Polsen, Miss Grasso, Mrs Brticevich, Mrs Le-Guier, Miss Witheridge, Mrs Shea and Miss Cataldi. Their support of the parish, the children and their families is greatly appreciated.
Student reports
Next week, your child's report (for children in Years 1-6), will be available for you to view on Compass. Then, in the following week, June 21-25, all parents (K-Year 6) will have the opportunity to meet with your child's teacher to discuss the progress of your child's learning.
Your child's report is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their achievements and to support them with any identified goals. In the report, your child will receive a grade for each Key Learning Area from A-E. As can be seen from the details in the descriptors below, the majority of children will receive a 'C' grade as that reflects they have achieved sound knowledge and understanding:
A: The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.
B: The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
C: The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.
D: The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.
E: The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence in some of the processes and skills.
Due to the disruption to learning last year with the COVID restrictions, these grades were not used.
More information about the availability of reports will be provided next week.
Wishing you a safe week,
