Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers,

Risen Christ, when darkness overwhelms us may your dawn beckon.
When fear paralyses us may your touch release us.
When grief torments us may your peace enfold us.
When memories haunt us may your presence heal us.
When justice fails us may your anger ignite us.
When apathy stagnates us may your challenge renew us.
When courage leaves us may your spirit inspire us.
When despair grips us may your hope restore us.
And when death threatens us may your resurrection light lead us.Amen.

The season of Easter continues in the Church for another three weeks. This might come as a surprise when we don’t see the obvious signs of Easter like chocolate eggs and hot cross buns. During this season in the Church we are reminded of the significance of Jesus’ resurrection, especially through the eyes of the disciples, and we are reminded of our responsibilities as we are all commanded to spread the message of hope and peace given to us through Jesus.

School Open Afternoon

Due to the power outage last week, our School Open Afternoon was postponed to tomorrow, Thursday 12 May 3.30-5.30pm. Please pass this information on to any family or friends who are considering an enrolment at St John's. Also, any parents from Kinder - Year 2 are welcome to come along as you have had very few opportunities to look around our school due to the COVID restrictions that have been in place since your child started.

Athletics Carnival

Amidst an uncertain weather pattern during this week, we made the decision to push on and hold our Athletics Carnival today. A significant factor in going ahead with the carnival was the fact that the Campbelltown Sports Ground is not able to offer a back-up date as they are fully booked. Also, we are required to select our representative team to compete at the Diocesan Carnival and so we need to make use of this venue as we do not have the appropriate facilities at school for some of the events.

Despite the rain, we were able to complete all the running events. There are some field events (Shot Put and Discus) that we will need to conduct at school. We will also inform students of the selection process for Long Jump and High Jump.

I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the team of teachers who spent many hours in planning the day, especially Mrs Sinfield and Miss Davidson. A big thank you is also extended to the parents who volunteered (and were prepared to stand in the rain!) and to the students from Mt Carmel for their time assistance.

Morning assemblies

Each Monday morning, we begin the day with an assembly under the COLA. At this assembly we present Good Samaritan awards, acknowledge birthdays for the week, read an acknowledgement of country and sing the anthem. We might occasionally hold special liturgies or make other special presentations. Parents and carers are very welcome to this assembly each week. You are asked to wait until 8.45am to enter the school grounds (you will hear the bell ring at that time).

During the rest of the week we have a short assembly that is conducted over the PA system as soon as the children are settled in their classrooms.

Wishing you a happy and safe week,

Paul Moroney
