Deputy Principal report

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT- LAST WEEK’S POWER OUTAGE

As was mentioned by Mr Moroney via a Compass notification, last week a power line on Cordeaux St fell onto the ground causing a loud explosion-like sound. It then caused the electricity substation that services our school to have an outage. Emergency services were called to help sort out the issue and supported the school to ensure our students and staff were kept safe.

Thank you to all our parents and families for following instructions on the day of the malfunction and the days that followed. We greatly appreciate those parents and carers who were able to pick up children early last Wednesday. We are also grateful for families to enter the school via Lindsay Street and not use the car park during the installation of the new substation. Your ongoing support is what helps make our school community so special.

WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

On Friday 20 May, children will put their feet first and journey towards a healthier future by participating in National Walk Safely to School Day.

National Walk Safely to School Day is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children. Apart from the physical benefits, regular walking also has a favourable impact on children's cognitive and academic performance.

Now in its 23rd year, the annual event has joined forces with National Road Safety Week (15 - 22 May) to further draw the spotlight on road safety and support the importance of regular walking, not just on 20 May, but every day.

Harold Scruby, Chairman and CEO of the Pedestrian Council of Australia said that "until they are 10, children must always hold the hand of an adult when crossing the road".
