Principal's Report
Dear Parents and carers,
In a new book, “Four Thousand Weeks,” Oliver Burkeman makes the reader aware that the average human gets 4,000 weeks on this planet. That equates to living to the age of 80. Burkeman uses this statistic to provide some perspective on aspects of productivity such as ‘to do lists’ and ‘clearing the inbox to zero.’ Keeping busy by attending to such things can often seem fruitless because we never seem to have enough time to get them all done. How true is that as a parent! At times it can seem the more we do, the more that comes our way. The essence of Burkeman’s book is that we need to be comfortable with the fact that we will not get everything done. He does not espouse laziness or failing to meet accountabilities and responsibilities. Rather, to be more selective in deciding which tasks are the most relevant at that point in time, and to be fully present to that moment. This prayer may offer some support in finding the right balance:
Dear Lord,
Remind me daily that You have called me to be fruitful, not just busy. Give me the wisdom and strength to produce in abundance that which is most important and constructive in my life and the lives of those around me. Help me to focus on the things that are most important, and keep me from being distracted by the things that try to keep me from reaching my goals and achieving the dreams that you have put in my heart. Amen
