Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
God, heavenly Father, look upon me and hear my prayer during this holy Season of Lent. Help me live by Your commandment of love. God of love, bring me back to You. Send Your Spirit to make me strong in faith and active in good works. May my acts of penance bring me Your forgiveness, open my heart to Your love,
and prepare me for the coming feast of the Resurrection of Jesus. Amen.
One way in which we can focus on others during this time of Lent is through outreach and charity. Each year we support the work of Caritas, a Catholic organisation who supports communities in developing countries, particularly through the fundraising drive called Project Compassion. Our students are encouraged to donate money into a Project Compassion box in their classroom. As an incentive to contribute, the class that donates the most money during Lent will get to enjoy a pizza party.
School Open Day
Today we held an Open Day for new enrolments. This initiative provided an opportunity for prospective families to have a look around our school, to meet current and ex-students, staff and parents. We believe that the people in our school community provide the best testimony of what we can offer – a caring, Christ-centred learning environment that caters for the uniqueness of each person. It was lovely to welcome the families today and to have them experience a little of the St John’s community. I was especially proud of our Year 6 Student Leaders who led the tours of the school.
I would like to pass on my thanks to the parents who helped with the welcome, especially in serving morning tea and ‘meeting and greeting’ our visitors. If you know of family or friends who were not able to attend today and would like to have a tour of our school, please encourage them to contact our office.
Parish Mass to welcome new families
This Sunday, at the 9.00am Parish Mass, Fr John is inviting all the families who are new to our school community. At the Mass he will bless the children's school bag as a symbol of them being on a 'journey' in the years in which they are part of our parish and school community. Of course, all families are welcome to be part of this celebration.
Diocesan Western Region Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to our students who competed in this carnival today. They represented our school with great pride, effort and a positive sporting attitude. Results will be provided in next week's Newsletter, especially of those who have been selected for the next level of representation.
Friday assemblies
This year, each class will be presenting some of their learning at one of our Friday assemblies, along with the normal school awards that are given. This Friday, 6 Blue will be presenting. Parents and carers are welcome to come and see some of the great things that the children have been doing in class.
Wishing you a safe and blessed week,
