Deputy Principal Report
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY WINTER BREAK
Semester One is coming to a close. It certainly has been a busy first half of 2023. The students and teachers are ready for a well deserved break.
We wish all students and their families a safe and enjoyable winter break. There have been many highlights this semester in and out of the classroom. We will continue to work together in improving student learning outcomes during the second half of the year. Thank you to our students, parents and friends for their ongoing support.
GOOD SAMARITAN MASS
On Tuesday, 27 June 2023, we celebrated our Good Samaritan Mass. The Good Samaritan is a crucial part of our school's charism and as such, live by the values surrounding the Good Samaritan and Benedictine traditions. We come to acclaim our four Good Samaritan Values – Listening – to God and to others; Welcoming – others as Christ welcomes us; Justice – where we take positive steps to help others; and Forgiveness – where we forgive and are therefore able to be at peace.
During his homily, Fr Feliki posed the question to us all, “Who is our neighbour?” It allowed us all an opportunity to reflect upon this question, as was asked to Jesus by a lawyer written in Luke’s Gospel. We thank Fr Feliki for his insights in leading us during the celebration of the Eucharist.
Thank you also to the many students and teachers who participated in the Mass yesterday. The setting of the sacred space was a beautiful way to commence the Mass. The readers and our choir all did an outstanding job. Finally, the liturgical movement to ‘Thy Word’ was a wonderful way to conclude our Mass.
Thanks to the parents and carers who were able to attend our Good Samaritan Mass.
UNIFORM FOCUS- HOUSE COLOUR COMPETITION
The students of Therry (Yellow House) managed to have the most tokens to win the House Colour Competition by consistently wearing the correct uniform this term.
Today most of the students in Therry House received their award by being able to wear mufti and receive a Zooper Dooper ice block. Year 1 students in Therry will receive their prize tomorrow (Thursday, 29 June) as they are on an excursion to Sydney Zoo today.
NETBALL GALA DAY
Last week, some students from Years 3-6 represented St John’s at the Western Region Netball Gala Day. The children had lots of fun and definitely learnt lots about the sport as the day went on. The opportunity to play as a team against students from other schools has so many benefits. Well done to all the students involved!
A special thank you to Mrs Walker, Mrs Jeffery & Mr Nash for their support in organising and participating in the day. Thanks also to the parents, grandparents and friends for their support.
UNIVERSITY STUDENTS- TEACHER PLACEMENT
Over the past few weeks we have supported university students from ACU with teacher placement. These students are currently completing their degree in Primary Education. They have just completed their time here at St John’s. The feedback from them all has been overwhelmingly positive. They all spoke very highly of our students and the teachers who were supervising them.
We certainly need more young teachers in our system and hope that one day they may even return to our wonderful community. These students did a great job supporting the learning of our children throughout their placement. Their names and classes they were with are below. We wish them all the best in the future.
