Deputy Principal Report

SOCCER GALA DAY

On Friday, 28 August, students from Years 3-6 attended the Catholic Primary Schools Soccer Gala Day (Western Region). Mother nature put on a great day for the students to bend it like Beckham at Eschol Park Playing Fields, Eagle Vale. On all accounts the girls and boys had an extremely successful day on and off the pitch. There were a number of goals scored with some excellent teamwork. Congratulations to all the boys and girls for making it a great day.

Thank you to Mr Nash for coordinating our teams for the Gala Day. Thanks also to Miss Ryan, Ms Glenn and Mrs Walker for their supervision on the day. A special shout out to the parents and friends who assisted the students and gave them support throughout the day.

TERM 3 CLASS CAPTAINS

Congratulations to the children below who have been selected as Class Captains for this term. We look forward to providing opportunities in which they can demonstrate their leadership skills in coming weeks.

Our Class Captains for Term 3 received their badge from Fr Feleki and recited the ‘Class Captain Pledge’ at Monday morning's assembly. We are confident that our student leaders will be great examples for others and demonstrate our Good Samaritan values.

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK AT ST JOHN’S

A reminder that we will be celebrating National Science Week during Week 4 (8-11 August) of this term. The theme in 2023 is ‘Innovation: Powering Future Industries.’

During these days, classes will visit the school hall to be involved in a range of engaging, hands-on science experiments, activities and demonstrations. The aim is to develop a sense of curiosity about the world of Science & Technology. These activities will involve and develop problem solving and prediction skills.

Our Year 6 students will work with younger children in the activities. There will also be a special day for parents, carers and friends to attend on Friday, 11 August.

There will also be a colouring competition- a chance for an infant and primary student to win a small science pack!

Below is a schedule for the week:

FEAST OF ST MARY MACKILLOP

On Tuesday, 8 August, we celebrate the feast day for St Mary MacKillop. She has certainly played a significant role in over 200 years of Catholic Education.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop (1842–1909), our first Australian saint, had a passion to ensure that education was available to poor children right across the Australian countryside. She went to extraordinary means and endured many difficulties to pursue the calling and have her sisters travel to where the greatest need existed. She exhibited courage, trust, openness and raw faith in her deliberations and actions.

On 15th August 1867, Sister Mary MacKillop took her first Vows as a Religious and the title “of the Cross” a call to a lifetime of courage and desire to serve Jesus in very practical ways. She faced many trials and tribulations setting up groups of sisters in and near Adelaide (including Penola), Sydney, Bathurst and Brisbane, travelling widely and writing volumes of letters of support and encouragement available to us today. Mary was canonized on the 17th October 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI.

Please pause for a moment next Tuesday and offer your prayers to Australia’s first saint.

Whatever troubles may be before you, accept them bravely, remembering

Whom you are trying to follow.

Do not be afraid.

Love one another, bear with one another, and let charity guide you all your life.

God will reward you as only He can.

- St Mary of the Cross
