Deputy Principal Report

STUDENT LEADERS

It is wonderful to be recognised for leadership qualities. We have had many students from years 1- 6 recognised for such qualities by their peers and teachers. We will have an opportunity to congratulate the children who have been selected as Class Captains for Term 1 at our Monday morning assembly on 19 February. The list of Term 1 Class Captains will be posted on Compass this Friday. This will hopefully give parents and family to get photos of their children receiving their Class Captain badges.

Our Year 6 leaders will also be recognised at our Opening School Mass on Tuesday, 20 February. At the Mass they will receive their badges and recite our pledge, as a promise to serve and represent the school with pride. We thank them in anticipation for their commitment in their roles throughout the year.

We are confident that our student leaders will be great examples for others and continue to demonstrate our Good Samaritan values.

MEET & GREETS

As mentioned in last week's newsletter, during Week 4 (19-23 February) we will be holding our Meet & Greet sessions. This is an extremely important opportunity for classroom teachers to gain further insights about children from parents/carers.

Each meeting will be scheduled for 10 minutes. Our late night will be on Monday, 19 February, with the final meeting taking place at 6:50pm.

(PLEASE NOTE: Year 2, 1G & 1R will have their late night meetings on Tuesday, 20 February and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.)

This week, parents and carers, through a Compass notification, have been able to book their appointment online to meet with their child’s classroom teacher. PLEASE NOTE THAT BOOKINGS WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAY, 18 FEBRUARY.

We look forward to working in partnership with parents and carers to support the learning and well being of our students.

THE SEASON OF LENT

Beginning on Ash Wednesday (for the Latin Rite) Lent is:

A Time of Preparation through Prayer, Penance and Almsgiving

A Time of Remembering and Reflection

A Time of Repentance and Renewal

A Time of Forgiveness

A Time of Growth

While Lent is a time for the whole Catholic community to prepare for Easter it is also a time of preparation for those people waiting to be received into the Church through the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Lent is the only liturgical season that begins on a weekday. This day is marked by fasting and the use of ashes. The use of ashes is referred to in the bible, and was a gesture of penance and mourning.

A special thank you to Fr John for leading us in Mass today for Years 2-6. He mentioned the importance of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving during this important Liturgical Season.

The K & 1 students received ashes in a special liturgy and prayer at school.

Thank you to Miss Costello for coordinating our Ash Wednesday Mass and Liturgy today. Thanks also to those teachers and students who led parts of the liturgy.
