Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Entering and Exiting the School

Parents are encouraged to remain vigilant when using the pedestrian crossings around the school site. This increased awareness is particularly encouraged during the peak times of the school day, when students are arriving or leaving the school. We encourage parents to always use the pedestrian crossing with their child/ren. It is helpful to try to use this time as a teachable moment. Make children aware of the safety required when crossing the road.

I am certain that all parents would agree that the safety and security of all children is a priority and is of the utmost importance. Therefore, it is deeply concerning whenever the safety and security of any of our children at St John the Evangelist is compromised.

School car parks are also a major risk factor for children

  • They are very busy places, with many distractions and everybody seems to be in a hurry.
  • Pedestrian injuries can be severe and are a significant cause of child disability.

Campbelltown City Council and local Police make regular, random spot checks as part of an ongoing program for road safety. Please ensure signage around the school is followed to avoid fines and demerit points.

We request that parents always act in the best interests of safety within our parking and pedestrian zones.

How should adults behave around car parks and schools

  • Slow down

Be extra vigilant even in car parks. And the child could be yours or a close friend’s!

  • Watch out

Children can move very quickly. And your reaction time is unlikely to be fast enough.

  • Obey the signs!

Car park/ pedestrian signs are there to help you and the children. Obey them!

  • Set a good example!

Please reinforce the school’s safety messages – the life you save might be your own child’s.

Avoid walking through the Church car park completely by using the footpaths or by using the Lindesay Street gates.

  • Take time!

Do not rush in and around schools. Time and patience gives you flexibility to act properly.

  • Beat the rush!

Give yourself plenty of time to arrive at school before the bell. This makes for a more settled start to a day of learning.

PLEASE MAKE SAFETY AT OUR SCHOOL A PRIORITY

Campbelltown Council has been recently engaged to complete a Road Safety Analysis of the school site.

This will provide important information and analysis of ways we can improve arrival and dismissal processes, for the safety of all the students at St John’s.

Please also be mindful that the presbytery is for the parking of parishioners and visitors only.

Thank you for your vigilance in ensuring the safety of all of our students when driving around the school.
