EASTER CELEBRATIONS
The season of Easter, covers the fifty-day period from Easter to Pentecost. It can be seen as:
- A Time of Celebration
- A Time of Renewal
- A Time of Peace
- A Time of Promise
- A Time of New Beginnings
We hope all St John’s families had a blessed and Holy Easter last weekend.
On Tuesday, 2 April, our community gathered to celebrate the Eucharist at our Easter Mass. During his homily, Fr John spoke about this being a time for our Church to celebrate. He mentioned that we are an Easter people and for all of us to rejoice in the risen Lord. Thanks to the students who participated in the Mass with readings, processions, the liturgical movement and choir. Also thanks to Miss Costello and Ms Johnson in coordinating and preparing the students for this significant liturgy for our whole school.
In the afternoon, we celebrated with our Easter Hat Parade. The efforts the students and families went to was clearly evident with an array of stunning designs on the wide variety of unique hats. There were even some clues left by the Easter Bunny about the learning taking place in each grade. It was a great success with lots of parents and carers attending. Thanks to Miss Costello for coordinating this wonderful celebration.
Thank you to all those in the P & F for organising our Easter Raffle this term. We also thank the school community for their support in purchasing tickets. The Easter Raffle was drawn after the Easter Hat Parade. Congratulations to the thirty winners who managed to win a beautiful hamper.
POLICE LIAISON OFFICER VISITS TO DISCUSS ONLINE SAFETY
On Monday, 25 March, Senior Constable Michel met with each of our grades from Years 3-6 to discuss online safety. It was an important opportunity for students to learn more about these issues when they are engaged in an online environment.
Some of our class captains have shared a few things that had an impact on them during the discussion:
Belen Galea 5R- The police came to talk to us last week about cyber safety. Every child in the primary years has a school iPad and it is important that all children know what is wrong online and the consequences that could occur. Unfortunately cyber bullying happens almost everyday and kids must be aware of it. This talk with the police will change children’s experiences on the internet and online. We thank the police for their time to teach St. John’s children how to stay safe online.
Alessandra Villarosa 4R- Senior Constable Michel taught us how to be safe online. Just say if you have made an account and someone likes your post. If they ask for your phone number and other private information you would never give it and tell a trusted adult.
Grace Bazouni 4R- We were thankful for Senior Constable Michel to teach us all about being safe online. It was a real eye opener to find out that doing some bad stuff online can come out with some bad consequences. I think that everyone learned a good lesson about being safe online.
Dominique Bayon 5B- Last Monday, Year 5 went to the tiered learning space for an Online Safety talk with Senior Constable Michel. She told us that we need to be careful when posting pictures online and should only share pictures and information about ourselves with people we know in person. She also informed us that our online behaviour can have serious consequences such as gaol time and a criminal record.
Belle Mojica & Philo Heness 6B- On Tuesday 26th March, 2024 a senior constable visited the year 6 grade for a cyberbullying and online safety chat in the tiered learning space. The constable spoke about popular games and their age restrictions which was interesting because some of them we weren't aware of. After the discussion, the students were invited to ask questions.
