Introducing our new Wellbeing Officer

Dear Families,
St John's Student Wellbeing Officer (SWO), Bernadette Taylor, will be working with St St John's students and families again this year. Some of the SWO roles include the following:
- Promoting and supporting wellbeing including mental health, physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs.
- Student wellbeing also involves family wellbeing, the SWO Responding to and supporting students' and families wellbeing needs.
- Running small wellbeing groups when required. These groups are student-focussed and trauma-informed and support students' learning through play and activities which foster positive relations within a happy and safe environment where each person values the dignity of each other. When a group is chosen to work with the SWO the classroom teacher will inform the parents and the parents have the option to opt-out of the support by contacting the teacher.
- Collaborating with the school counsellor and leadership to provide appropriate care, support and response to student and family needs where necessary.
- Supporting students' well being in class and in the playground.
- Engaging with and supporting students' families when necessary.
- Running school community morning teas.
- Facilitating the Seasons for Growth Grief & Loss Program for children and other wellbeing initiatives.
If anyone would like more information or to discuss any wellbeing matters, please contact Bernadette through the school office or email taylorb02@dow.catholic.edu.au.
