Deputy Principal Report
CHURCH CAR PARK
We should all be aware of the importance regarding the safety of our children and families in the church car park.
As we all know, the church car park serves as a crucial space for dropping-off in the morning and pick-up after dismissal. However, recent observations have raised concerns regarding safety practices, particularly regarding double parking.
Double parking not only obstructs the flow of traffic but also poses significant safety risks for pedestrians, especially children, who may need to navigate between parked vehicles. Additionally, it hampers access to the exit and complicates the movement of other vehicles within the car park.
We respectfully ask parents and carers to please refrain from double parking under any circumstances. If the car park is full upon your arrival, we encourage you to consider alternative parking arrangements in the streets nearby. If you are able to do so perhaps come a little bit after 3pm as there may be spaces available then.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns regarding parking or safety in the church car park, please do not hesitate to contact us.
THE PARISH WELCOMES NEW STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
The St. John's Parish, under the guidance of Fr. John Ho, warmly welcomed new students and families on Sunday, 2 March. The event served as a special occasion to integrate newcomers into the parish community and bless the school bags of students for the academic year ahead.
The welcome of new students and families, coupled with the blessing of school bags, served as a poignant reminder of the communal spirit and spiritual foundation that defines the parish of St. John's, Campbelltown. Under the leadership of Fr. John, the parish remains committed to fostering a nurturing environment where faith, fellowship, and education intertwine to enrich the lives of all its members.
LENT- PROJECT COMPASSION
During Lent, we are called to pray, fast and participate in almsgiving. As part of our Catholic Social Teaching we are obliged to give preferential treatment to the poor.
We thank students and families in anticipation of the contributions they will make to Project Compassion during this liturgical season.
Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion provides those less fortunate than us, the opportunity to learn new skills, enables them to move away from dependence and debt and assists them to become self-supporting. We are extremely grateful for the work of this Catholic organisation.
NAPLAN
Each year the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
NAPLAN is just one part of our school learning assessment program. The tests assess literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school.
(NSW Education Standards Authority, 2024)
Our Years 3 & 5 students will complete NAPLAN over the next fortnight. The schedule is below:
Writing |
Wednesday, 12 March |
Reading |
Thursday, 13 March |
Language Conventions |
Monday, 17 March |
Numeracy |
Tuesday, 18 March |
With the assistance of parents and carers, we would ask that the children’s iPad’s be fully charged on the morning of these days. They also require their headphones as well.
Tomorrow the students in Years 3 and 5 will sit a practice tests so they are familiar with how to answer the questions and the online layout of NAPLAN.
We are thinking of our Year 3 & 5 students over the coming week as they demonstrate their knowledge and skills in literacy and numeracy.
