Principal Report

Dear Parents/Carers,

Eternal Father, you have called your servant, Pope Francis, home to you. We thank you for the gift of his life, his leadership, and his unwavering faith.
We ask for your mercy and compassion for his soul. Grant him eternal rest and allow him to rest in your peace.
We also pray for the College of Cardinals as they gather to choose a new leader for the Church. Guide them with your wisdom and grant them the courage and discernment to discern your will. May the Holy Spirit inspire them to choose a successor who will continue to serve your Church with love and humility. Amen.

Welcome to Term 2. I trust that you and your family had a joyous Easter, and that your children had some time to rest and enjoy doing some of their favourite things. Yesterday our school community was able to celebrate Mass together, a culmination of the Easter story which we began at the end of last term with our Holy Week Liturgy. Fr John and seminarian Darren reminded the students that the risen Jesus is with us each and every day and can be a source of strength for us.

Our school joins with the rest of the Catholic church, and in fact many parts of the world, in mourning the death of Pope Francis. It seems that in his life he had a significant impact on many across the world, especially those who live on the fringes of society or in parts of the world that are impacted by such things as war, oppression and famine. He was also a great advocate for the environment with his encyclical, 'Laudato Si', imploring all of us to be active stewards of creation. This is a link to a statement from the Bishop of the Wollongong diocese. We now shift our prayers to the selection of our next Pope, asking the Holy Spirit to inspire the Cardinals in their deliberations.

Federal Election

Before you cast your vote this Saturday, it’s important you know where the political parties stand when it comes to Catholic education. While both Labor and the Coalition support Catholic schools and our priorities, that’s not true of all candidates running in this election.

To help you understand the views of the major parties, the National Catholic Education Commission has prepared this helpful scorecard.

With every blessing for the week ahead,

Paul Moroney
