Principal Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

We pray that Pope Leo XIV be strengthened in his ministry.

May he continue building bridges that connect us to one another.

May he be an example of faith, hope and love.

We pray that you give him joy in his work and a renewed fervor for your Gospel message.

Pope Leo XIV is the 267th Pope in history. This marks a new chapter for the Church and brings a fresh perspective to its global leadership.

Since his election, Pope Leo XIV has already shared powerful messages. He has spoken about the importance of peace and unity among all people, and about our shared responsibility to care for one another, especially those who are in need or facing challenges. These messages align beautifully with the values we encourage here at school – kindness, compassion, understanding and 'walking in peace and joy'.

National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week

This year National Sorry Day falls on Monday 26 May and is a day when we pause to remember the Stolen Generations of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It leads us into the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation and National Reconciliation Week which is held each year between 27 May and 3 June.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2025 is, Bridging Now to Next.

At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that reminds us that while generations of Australians have fought hard for meaningful change, future gains are likely to take just as much, if not more, effort. In a just, equitable and reconciled Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children will have the same life chances and choices as non-Indigenous children, and the length and quality of a person’s life will not be determined by their racial background.

Next week is a great opportunity for all of us to consider the steps that we are taking to bring about meaningful reconciliation.

A good night's sleep!

When children get enough good quality sleep, it's like giving their brains and bodies a fantastic recharge. It helps them concentrate better in class, learn new things more easily, and have the energy to run, play, and enjoy their day.

Think of sleep as fuel for their learning and growth. Without enough, they might feel tired, grumpy, and find it harder to focus.

Here are a few simple things that can help your child get those ZZZs they need:

  • Routine is key: Try to have a regular bedtime and wake-up time, even on weekends.
  • Wind-down time: Create a calm routine before bed, like reading a book or having a warm bath.
  • Sleep-friendly space: Make sure their bedroom is dark, quiet, and a comfortable temperature.
  • Limit screen time: Try to avoid screens (phones, tablets, TVs) at least an hour before bed.

A well-rested child is a happy and engaged learner.

Staff Development Days for Term 2

You are reminded of the two Staff Development Days being held this term:

  • Friday 6 June
  • Friday 4 July (this means the end of Term 2 for the students is Thursday 3 July)

Students do not come to school on these days.

With every blessing for the week ahead,

Paul Moroney
