Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we approach the end of first term it is an appropriate time to give thanks for the many great opportunities that have occurred at St John’s so far this year. This is a wonderful community where parents and teachers work closely together to provide support and learning experiences for the students at St John’s.

This was truly evident in the wonderful community day that we shared at Mount Carmel Catholic College on Monday, for the school Cross Country. It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members who were able to be present to support and cheer on the students. Many thanks to the parents who were able to volunteer and assist, providing support to the students who were competing in many different activities. Without your help days like this would not be able to happen.

Special thanks also goes to the staff that arrived early to set up the activities and mark out the Cross Country course. We especially thank Mrs Jill Crescini and Mrs Angela Marshall who planned and organised the carnival with the support from Mount Carmel staff. Without this planning and preparation the Carnival would not have ran so smoothly.

BUILDING PROGRESS UPDATE

Work is continuing to progress in the refurbishment of existing classrooms. Today (Wednesday) the Year 6 students will be relocating to their refurbished classroom spaces. This completes the second phase of the building program. The third and final stage will involve the refurbishment of the Library (previous Year 5 classrooms) as well as the playground space outside the K-6 Gold and K-6 Blue classrooms.

This playground refurbishment will help to make this space safer with the removal of the speed humps and drainage grates. This final stage is due for completion early next term.

K-6 Gold and K-6 Blue will be temporarily relocating to the Tiered Learning Space during the completion of this playground resurfacing.

We thank the students and staff for their patience and flexibility during the building project. The end result will be classroom spaces that are conducive to learning and a playground space that is free from potential trip hazards. We look forward to sharing these refurbished spaces with you once they are completed.

THANK YOU to all members of our school community for your wonderful support during the 2019 Project Compassion Lenten Appeal.

St John’s will be donating a total of $1,545.85.

These funds were collected through the weekly Cupcakes For Compassion Stall that was generously supported by the students. Thank you for your generous donations to those who are less fortunate.

STAFF NEWS

During the student vacation, Miss Hannah Farrugia (6 Gold teacher) will be married. We wish both Hannah and Craig many blessings as they begin married life together.

Emily Lewis, one of our school CathoilcCare counsellors will be leaving to take up a position in a private psychologist practice. We thank Emily for all her commitment, care and compassion to the students at St John’s. A recruitment process will now commence through CatholicCare for a counsellor to replace Emily. Parents will be advised when this process has been completed.

Holy Week and the Easter celebrations call us all into the liturgical life of the Church. As the week unfolds let us all set some time aside to engage in these extraordinary liturgies. It is our Christian calling to gather in prayer. May our school community, our family lives and our broader Church all allow us to build a deeper relationship with our God this Easter Season.

Wishing you many blessings to you all for the Easter Break.

Acting Assistant Principal
