Dear Parents/Carers,
On Monday I was privileged to attend a Mass in Wollongong with our two school captains, Jiya and Luca, celebrating 200 years of Catholic education in Australia. They both had the honour of leading the student procession as St John's is the oldest school in our diocese. The Mass was a wonderful acknowledgement of the contribution that Catholic schools have made to our nation.
In his homily, Bishop Brian reminded us that education has not been limited to that last 200 years, rather it has been occurring on this land for thousands of years, with the families of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) people passing on their knowledge, culture and wisdom to future generations. In light of this, I had the privilege of attending a Sorry Day service today with our Year 6 ATSI students at the Catholic church in Minto. To be reminded of the impact that past policies have had on our First Nations People is vital for us all to move toward genuine reconciliation.
Athletics Carnival
Just a reminder of this significant event being held next Monday. Thanks you to the parents who have offered to help. If you are coming to watch some of the events but are unable to help, you are reminded to stay in the areas allocated for spectators, so that we adhere to COVID regulations. We look forward to a great day.
School Disco
I would like to pass on my thanks to the P & F for organising the disco for the children on Friday night. They all had a lot of fun and were kept very safe by the willing volunteers. It is great that we are starting to enjoy such events again after all the restrictions that we had over the last twelve months.
Wishing you a safe week,

Birthday Celebration Sharing Restrictions Update
CEO have updated the food sharing policy due to the easing of Covid restrictions. Children are now able to share individually wrapped food items with their classmates on their Birthdays, this would included things like Lollipops, individually wrapped lollies etc.
We also need to be mindful of Children & teachers with food allergies & intolerances
There is still the option of purchasing Zooper Doopers from the canteen, These are now available to purchase through Flexischools lunch 2
Thank you for your understanding with this matter
If your child is away from school it is important to let the school know as soon as possible with a specific reason, e.g. what type of illness they have, If you are filling in a note on the Compass app, please add an explanation in the details/comments box .
Do not enter into compass if they are going to be late or leave early, that needs to be done from the school end.
It is really important to keep your child at home if they are unwell, this will help with the spread of illness. In the current COVID 19 climate ,if you child displays cold/flu symptoms, your child will be sent home and you will need to get a medical clearance and a negative covid result and be symptom free before your child can return to school
If your child has a covid test, please notify the school when they have the test and as soon as you get your results please forward these on to the school.
