Dear Parents/Carers,
If you are like me, I am sure you are missing some of the 'ordinary' things that we would normally be able to enjoy. The following poem may remind you of some of these and give you cause to reflect on how you want to be when the lockdown ends.
When this is over, may we never again take for granted
A handshake with a stranger
Full shelves at the store
Conversations with neighbours
A crowded theatre
Friday night out
The taste of communion
A routine checkup
The school rush each morning
Coffee with a friend
The stadium roaring
Each deep breath
A boring Tuesday
Life itself.
When this ends, may we find that we have become more like the people
we wanted to be
we were called to be
we hoped to be
and may we stay that way,
better for each other
because of the worst.

Parent Zoom Workshops
Thank you to the parents who have participated in the workshops thus far, or watched the recording. I hope that you have found them worthwhile. I would like to pass on my thanks to the staff who have helped to lead these, in particular Mrs Libro who has coordinated them. There is one more workshop to go this week.
Friday 3 September 11.30am: "Helping my child learn to read"
Wellbeing Week
To coincide with R U OK Day (Thursday 9 September), our WHS Team has planned a series of activities for next week that focus on wellbeing. Activities will be provided for the children each day to help them think about how they can look after their wellbeing, and there will also be some information pushed out on Compass for parents and carers to help you focus on your own wellbeing.
This current lockdown has certainly proven that the health and wellbeing of everyone needs to be at the forefront of all that we do. It is hoped that by having this focus next week, we can support our whole school community in getting through the lockdown and coming out of it with a renewed sense of how we can look after one another.
End of Term 3
Just a reminder that Term 3 will end on Thursday 16 September. Friday 17 September will be a pupil-free day, as staff will be engaged in our annual Spiritual Formation Day. This will be held off site so there will not be any staff at St John's on that day. Aspire will be open on Friday 17 September to provide care for your child if you are an essential worker.
I continue to pray for all of you during this challenging time.

World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation
Dear Parents
As we all strive to keep our students safe during this lockdown, our school remains open to provide supervision for parents who absolutely must send their children to school. We are most grateful to the many parents keeping their children home at this time, especially those juggling their own working from home responsibilities.
In order to ensure we have the minimal number of staff on site each day we need to know how many students absolutely must attend. This form will be sent each week for the remainder of term to accommodate shift workers who may not have their roster in advance.
Please complete a separate form by Friday this week for each of your children who absolutely must attend school for supervision on one or more days during WEEK 9, Term 3. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Due to the extended lockdown and period of remote learning, our school will not be participating in the ICAS Assessments this year.
