Dear Parents/Carers,
"Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, so that they may believe in You and in Jesus whom You sent. Look kindly on all candidates for Confirmation as they listen to Your voice. Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good work that You have begun in them. We pray that You will continue to guide them and sustain them. Through Christ our Lord, Amen."
Next week a number of our students in Year 6 will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. This celebration was originally planned for August. I am so pleased that, with the easing of restrictions, the children are now able to celebrate this most significant sacrament. Even though Bishop Brian is unable to be present, I thank Fr John for ensuring that the sacrament can still go ahead. I pray for each of the candidates that they gain a greater understanding of the Holy Sprir's presence in their lives.
Reading success
Our teachers have been gathering data on student's reading since we have returned to face-to-face learning. It is pleasing that many of our children's reading was not significantly impacted during remote learning. In fact, most children continued to grow as expected. This highlights the excellent support that you, as parents and carers, gave to your children. Regular reading, with adult support, is key to a child's literacy growth. Now that we are back at school, the children will obviously continue to receive support from our staff. However, in some cases, they may not get the regular level of one-to-one support that they received at home. Therefore, continuing reading at home will go a long way toward maintaining the reading growth. I am very aware that finding time can be difficult, however 5-10 minutes of you listening to your child read, or you reading to them, will be of great benefit.
Swimming carnival
A notification on Compass was posted recently about the upcoming swimming carnival. As explained in the information, we are only able to have competitive swimmers attend due to the current restrictions. Parent helpers will be needed. If you are able to help, you will need to be vaccinated and able to show proof.
Wishing you a safe and happy week,
Paul Moroney
