Dear Parents and Carers,
Dear Lord, may I realise afresh today what Your resurrection means for me. Forgiveness, freedom, and the ability to walk with You. May I always find my satisfaction in You and Your willingness to offer Yourself to me. Amen
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that your family had a blessed Easter with the chance to focus on the joy of the Resurrection (as well as the joy of chocolate eggs!). I also hope that the two week's break was a chance for your children to recharge their batteries.
I would like to pass on my thanks to the children, parents and staff who were able to join our school community in attending the Campbelltown RSL ANZAC Day March and Service on Monday, in very wet conditions. It was so pleasing to have so many join us on the day. As a school on Tuesday we were also able to hold an ANZAC service, with one of our parents who is an ex-serviceman, Mr Saunders, reading the ode.
Staff Development Day (Pupil-Free Day)
I remind you that next Monday 2 May is a Staff Development Day meaning children do not attend school on that day. Our teachers will be engaged in a full day of professional learning about effective teaching and learning of Mathematics.
New windows and doors
During the school holidays we were able to have the windows and doors replaced in the Community Room, Art Room, Years 3, 4 & 5 classrooms. This has brought much more light into those rooms, and it is great that all windows are now able to open and close properly. The funding for this work came from the School Enhancement and Debt Servicing Obligation (SEDSO) component of the school fees.
COVID-Safe Measures
Earlier this week a notification was pushed out on Compass providing you with details about new regulations for close contacts. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact our school office.
During Term 1 we experienced days in which we had a number of students and staff unable to attend school which caused some significant disruptions. We hope that we are much less impacted by COVID this term. We are still focusing on good hygiene with the children, ensuring our classrooms are well ventilated and supporting the use of masks. You are reminded of the key message that if your child is unwell, they should stay home, get tested for COVID and only return to school when they are in good health.
Wishing you a happy and safe week,
Paul Moroney
Principal
EASTER
The season of Easter, covers the fifty-day period from Easter to Pentecost. It can be seen as:
- A Time of Celebration
- A Time of Renewal
- A Time of Peace
- A Time of Promise
- A Time of New Beginnings
We hope all St John’s families have had a blessed and Holy Easter.
PARENTS INVITED TO ATTEND SCHOOL EVENTS THIS TERM
We are so pleased to be able to invite parents back to attend school events and celebrations this term.
With COVID Safety Measures being relaxed, we are now able to allow parents and friends back on site to be part of:
- Friday afternoon assemblies
- Whole school liturgies
- Grade Masses
- School Athletics Carnival
We hope to see parents and friends join us for our Friday afternoon, Primary Assembly (Years 3-6) on 6 May 2022 between 2:15pm-2:45pm.
Our system is still encouraging social distancing and wearing of masks when on site. We look forward to reconnecting as a school community with our parents and friends this term.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
Our school photos will take place on Tuesday, 21 June 2022 (Term 2, Week 9). Students will be expected to wear their whole school winter uniform.
ANZAC DAY LITURGY
On Tuesday, 26 April, we held a Prayer at morning assembly to recognise ANZAC Day and remember all the brave men and women who have served our nation in conflict and peace-keeping missions. This year we commemorate the 107th anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops on the Gallipoli peninsula in 1915.
Thank you to Mrs Guyer, Ms Day, Miss Ryan, Mrs Hampton and our student representatives in leading our prayer. A special thank you to Mr Darryl Saunders who led ‘The Ode’.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THERRY HOUSE FOR WINNING THE HOUSE TROPHY – 7th Year in a Row!
PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE 2022
This year, St John’s will be participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is not a competition, but a challenge to each student to read, to read more, and to read more widely. At St John’s, we promote the importance of reading, and by participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, students will continue to develop their love of reading. The school library has a big selection of Premier’s Reading Challenge books on display, with the PRC ID on the book cover for students to add to their online Student Reading Record.
Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 teachers will read 30 books to their class during class time, and these books will be logged as a class.
Year 3 to Year 6 students will read 20 books from the PRC Booklist; however, 5 of these books can be Personal Choice books. Students will be required to complete their online Student Reading Record at home, using their user ID and password, by 20th August 2022. All Year 3 to Year 6 students will receive their user ID and password unless the school has been contacted and the student will not be participating.
At the completion of the Premier’s Reading Challenge, all Year 3 to Year 6 students who have successfully read and logged their books, and all Kindergarten to Year 2 students who have participated, will receive a certificate. Certificates have the student's name and school printed on them. Due to child protection issues, names are no longer published on an Honour Roll on the Premier's Reading Challenge website. For further information, go to the Premier’s Reading Challenge website at https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html
We hope that as many students as possible will participate. If you do not wish for your child to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, please contact the school on (02) 46251171 or email info@sjctdow.catholic.edu.au by Friday 13th May 2022.
Thank you for your support and encouragement of reading.

PRC Coordinator
Donations of Wool– Mini Vinnies
In Term 2, St John the Evangelist, Mini Vinnies Team will be learning to knit and crochet blankets for the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal. We’re in need of donations of balls of wool please to help us with our “Project”. (If you have 10 ply this will make extra soft blankets). If you have any wool, could you please send it into school with your child or drop it at the front office at the beginning of Term 2 please. Your continued support is much appreciated.
For the first two weeks of Term 2 children will have the option of wearing either the summer or winter school uniform. From the start of Week 3, Monday 9 May, all children are to be wearing the winter school uniform.
Good news, our annual Campbelltown City Challenge Walk 2022 is back again for another year and we’d like to get our local schools involved!
Due to unforeseen weather, the date was changed from the 13th March 2022 to the 22nd May 2022.
