Dear parents and carers,
Lord Jesus, you were born of the Virgin Mary, the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne. Look with love on grandparents the world over. Protect them! They are a source of enrichment for families, for the Church and for all of society. Support them! As they grow older, may they continue to be for their families strong pillars of Gospel faith, guardians of noble domestic ideals, living treasuries of sound religious traditions. Make them teachers of wisdom and courage, that they may pass on to future generations the fruits of their mature human and spiritual experience. Amen.
What a wonderful day we had yesterday to celebrate Grandparents Day! It had been three years since we could hold this day and it was wonderful to welcome so many people. There was a genuine sense of joy throughout the day and our Mass affirmed how blessed the children are to have grandparents and other significant adults in their lives.
I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the parents of Year 5 & 6 for providing morning tea for our visitors. They were all well fed so your generosity was greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank the parents who were able to help with the serving of morning tea and the clean-up afterward.
200 Year Anniversary Mass
On 1 September 1822 Fr John Therry celebrated the first Mass in the Macarthur and our Diocese. Our Parish will be celebrating this significant event on Sunday 28 August with Mass under our school COLA at 10.00am followed by refreshments. Several foodstalls will be set up provided foof from the various cultural groups in the parish. This will inlude a BBQ being run by our P & F, so we will need lots of helpers for this. We would like as many families as possible to attend this Mass as a show of support for our Parish, of which we are all a member. Please mark it in your diary.
Wishing you all a happy and safe week,
Paul Moroney
Principal
DOGS CONNECT PROGRAM
After much excitement, we welcome Maple to our school tomorrow. On Monday, 25 July 2022, we held an induction session for students in every grade.
During the induction session we reminded the students of the Three Expectations.
To their credit the students from K-6 remembered these extremely well. We discussed the importance of Maple learning how to relax here at school for her health and safety. The more she is able to relax the greater the opportunities for interaction with her.
She will be introduced to every class tomorrow and begin her work here at St John’s. Maple will commence two days a week to begin with and then her days will increase as she becomes more familiar with the community and the environment. We are looking forward to the benefits a well being dog will have on our students and the school community.
ACCESSIBLE PARKING SPACES
Another reminder that the Accessible Parking Spaces is only for those who have a parking permit for that space. There have been some parents and carers who have parked in these spaces during school dismissal. We would ask that these spots be left available for those members of the community who really need them. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
TERM 3 CLASS CAPTAINS
It is wonderful to be recognised for leadership qualities. We have had many students from years 1 - 6 recognised for such qualities by their peers and teachers. We will congratulate these children who have been selected as Class Captains for this term and look forward to providing opportunities in which they can demonstrate their leadership skills.
These students will be provided with their badge at Monday mornings assembly- 1 August 2022. We will inform parents via Compass before Friday who our Term 3 Class Captains are, so you might be available to grab a photo and see your child receive their badge.
We are confident that our student leaders will be great examples for others and demonstrate our Good Samaritan values.

Our school has a 1:1 iPad program to support the learning of the students. This program is in place for students in Years 3-6. In order to provide you with as much information as possible about this program, we are running a meeting next week for you to attend. You have the option to attend in person at school or via Zoom.
There are two days/times from which you can choose:
- Wednesday 3 August at 6.00pm
- Friday 5 August at 1.15pm
The meeting will be held in the Tiered Learning Space (near the Kindergarten classrooms). A Zoom link will be provided via Compass on the day of each meeting.
Even if you have older children who are already part of the 1:1 program, you are encouraged to attend as we have now moved to a ‘school-managed’ iPad system since 2021, which may be different to the program with which you are familiar.
Congratulations to Lachlan A who competed in the NSW Cross Country Championships last Friday. He was representing Mackillop which encompasses five of the eleven dioceses in NSW. Lachlan felt well prepared for the event and came a very impressive 19th, finishing 3rd out of the Mackillop team. In typical Lachlan fashion, he is already thinking about how he can improve for next year.
Well done, Lachlan. We are all very proud of you.

On Friday 12 th August 2022, the Mini Vinnies members are organising an “Oodie/Hoodie
