Last Day of School for students |
Dear parents and carers,
Almighty God,
We give you our school.
We give you all the teachers and staff who work here.
We give you all the children who learn and play here.
We pray our school would be place of great discovery, adventure and creativity.
May it be a place where we love to learn and where we learn to love.
A place where every one is respected and all are deeply valued.
We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Welcome back to a new term. I trust that the two week break for your children helped to refresh their minds and bodies. Hopefully you were able to find some time away from the normal routines of a busy family life and enjoy some 'Sabbath' time.
My prayer for this new term is that the children continue to prosper and grow in their learning, their connection with God and in their relationships.
Staff Development Day
As we have been reminding you for several weeks now, this Friday 14 October, our staff will be engaged in a Spiritual Formation Day at an external venue. This means that it is a pupil-free day and there will be no staff on site.
The focus of our day is on Educating with a Mission Lens. This helps us as to focus on the fact that all our staff have made a deliberate choice to work in a Catholic school. It is incumbent on us to ensure we come to a deep understanding of the mission of Jesus and how we can bring it life in all that we do.
School Cyclic Review - request for parent involvement
Our school is currently going through a Cyclic Review that is run by the Catholic Education Office. It is a review of the school's strategic planning and to assist in setting future planning goals. These reviews are normally held every five years, however due to the interruption of the pandemic, it has been six years since St John's last review. As part of this review, next Wednesday 19 October, a panel will visit our school to engage in conversations with staff about the goals we have been working toward, with a specific focus on Religious Education and faith development, learning, pastoral care and well-being.
The panel would like to engage with a small group of parents between 10.00am-10.30am. Please let the office know if you would like to be a part of this process.
End of 2022 school year
There is quite an unusual end to our school year for 2022. The last day of opening for schools is Tuesday 20 December. In the past we were able to have two staff planning days at the end of the year, whereas we now only have one. Therefore, the last day for students is allocated as Monday 19 December.
Planning for 2023
As we make plans for next year, you are asked to inform the office if you know that your child will not be attending St John's beyond this year.
Wishing you all a happy and safe week.
Paul Moroney
Principal
WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4
We welcome back all our students, teachers and families for the final term of 2022. We hope the children had a wonderful break and recharged for the term ahead. Term 4 is always busy with lots of events taking place at St John’s.
We celebrate the liturgical season of Advent, leading up to Christmas. We farewell our Year 6 cohort and wish them every success as they move into Secondary School. Our Playgroup begins and we hold our Kindergarten Orientation for 2023 Kindergarten students and families. Year 5 have their Camp and organise student leadership for next year. Other grades have excursions planned. We have a swimming carnival to look forward to as well. Semester Two reports are also provided outlining the progress of student’s learning.
We look forward to an enjoyable term ahead to finish the school year and thank parents in anticipation of their continued support.
THE ROSARY
October has been set aside as a time for people to pray and meditate upon the Rosary, a popular devotion among Catholics. Over the centuries the Church has always honoured Mary, the Blessed Mother of God. Praying the Rosary is one of the many ways in which we do this.
We encourage students to pray to our Our Lady, the Mother of God, and for any intentions they have. For more information about the Rosary please click on this link.
TERM 4 CLASS CAPTAINS
It is wonderful to be recognised for leadership qualities. We have had many students from years 1 - 6 recognised for such qualities by their peers and teachers. We will congratulate these children who have been selected as Class Captains for this term and look forward to providing opportunities in which they can demonstrate their leadership skills.
These students will be provided with their badge on Monday, 24 October (Week 3) at the morning assembly. We will inform parents via Compass before Friday, 21 October of who our Term 4 Class Captains are, so you might be available to grab a photo and see your child receive their badge.
We are confident that our student leaders will be great examples for others and demonstrate our Good Samaritan values.
MAPLE IS READY TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK
Maple has had a great break and is looking forward to starting back at school. She has had lots of exercise. Like many of the students she even caught up with a friend to play with, Archie.
Next week she will commence being at school three days a week- Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The three expectations will still remain but we look forward to Maple having greater interaction with others.
Happy Birthday to the following students and staff who are celebrating their
