Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 3 at St John’s.
Hopefully the holidays were a time to enjoy the company of family and friends and to enjoy a change of pace. Hopefully, the time away from the usual routine provided an excellent opportunity for rest, relaxation and the recharging of batteries in preparation for what promises to be a very busy, but hopefully a very productive third school term.
Thank you to the many parents who took the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher at the end of the first semester. These meetings hopefully provided an opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning successes as well as to set a goal in the area of mathematics that your child will be working towards achieving this term. The setting of learning goals allows students to develop greater ownership and accountability with their learning. Parents are encouraged to continue to have conversations with their child about the learning goal that has been set to support progress in reaching this goal.
We continue to work together, fostering respectful relationships with the common purpose of supporting students to grow in their understanding of their faith and reach their full learning potential. Thank you for your ongoing support. Working together in partnership supports students in reaching learning goals and supports learning growth.
Wishing everyone a great week ahead,
Mrs Jane Webb
Acting Principal
Grandparents and Great People Day
This Friday, July 26th commemorates the feasts of St Anne and St Joachim. Historically little is known about these saints, except that they were the parents of Mary.
Although many might wonder what we can learn from people we know nothing about. We should focus on why they are honoured by the church. Whatever their names or the facts of their lives, the truth is that it was the parents of Mary who nurtured and taught her. It was her parents who brought her up to be worthy and accepting of great responsibility. It was their teaching that led her to respond to God’s request with faith. It was their example of parenting that Mary must have followed as she brought up her own son, Jesus. It was their faith that laid the foundation of courage and strength that she displayed throughout the trials of her life. Although they are traditionally seen as the patron saints of grandparents, Anne and Joachim are beautiful models for all parents and caregivers today. They provide us with real life people who dealt with all the unknown events that life had to offer and faced these uncertainties with trust, faith, confidence, hope, and hope. Like Anne and Joachim our lives, in some way, can be an inheritance to our children to enrich them and to provide them with firm foundations and confidence in their abilities and beliefs.
We ask God that the Spirit can continue to work through us for the benefit of our children.
Our annual Grandparents and Great People Day (G’Day) will be celebrated this coming Friday, to commemorate this special feast. We warmly invite all Grandparents and Great People in the lives of our students to join us for a special mass in their honour at 10am. This will be followed by a shared morning tea and classroom visits. The P&F will be providing tea/coffee and complimentary cake for our G’Day visitors. Families are invited to bring special treats to enjoy with the students during the morning tea. The canteen will also be open for over the counter sales. We look forward to celebrating these great people in our school community on Friday.
10am - Mass - We celebrate as a school community the Eucharist and give thanks for the special people in our lives.
** Any parents who are available to help in the canteen on Friday your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Please see Nicole in the canteen.
** The P & F will also be selling keepcups on this day for $12 each.
NETBALL GALA DAY
During Week 9 of last term students from Year 3 to Year 6 represented St John’s at the Netball Gala Day. All students demonstrated teamwork, resilience and enthusiasm and were fantastic representatives for St John’s.
A very big thank you to all the parents and friends who volunteered their time to manage a team on the day – the day would not have run as smoothly or as successfully without you.
Well done to all the students who participated and thank you for making it such an enjoyable day for all!
