Dear Parents/Carers,
We thank God for the wonderful staff, parents, parishioners and friends who have helped inspire, build and support our school. May they be blessed for their community spirit and faith.
We pray for the current students of St Johns and we welcome those new to our school community. May they find guidance from St John’s message to walk in peace and joy.
Father, as we begin this new school year, we are confident of the love and hope you give us. Listen to these prayers and keep us in your care each day.
We ask this through Christ the Lord. Amen
The prayers above were used at our Beginning Year Mass yesterday. The planning of the Mass by Fr John and Miss Costello ensured that it was a beautiful celebration of the Eucharist and an opportunity for all of us to ask God's blessing on our school year together. Please continue to keep our school community in your prayers during this year.
Following Mass we were also able to acknowledge our Year 6 leaders for 2024 and present them with their leadership badges. At St John's, we empower all our Year 6 students as leaders, knowing that they have great capacity to be a positive influence on the younger students.
School's Vision and Mission Statement
Also at our Mass yesterday, we took the opportunity to 'relaunch' our school's Vision and Mission Statement. This statement appears at the beginning of our Newsletter each week and last year our staff spent significant time exploring how it impacts on our work and the way we establish positive working relationships with each other.
This year one of our goals is to ensure our students and the broader community including you, the parents and carers, become attuned to the essence of our Vision and Mission Statement. When we are all working toward a shared outcome, we are well positioned to bring it to fruition. During this year we look forward to engaging you and the children in this process.
Parish Welcome Mass
Fr John, Fr Richard and the St John's Parish community invite all new families to a welcome Mass being held on Sunday 3 March at 9.00am. The children are asked to bring their school bag with them so that Fr John can give your child (and their bag) a blessing as a symbol of belonging to, and journeying with, the parish.
Our school is an integral part of the parish and so, regardless of your family’s level of connection or commitment to our church, you are all very welcome to attend this Mass as a way of helping your child feel a part of the parish.
Meet & Greet sessions
It has been wonderful to see so many parents take up the opportunity to attend a 'Meet & Greet' session this week. We hope that they give you the opportunity to develop a positive connection with your child's teacher to support the learning and faith development of your child. If you were unable to attend a meeting, please feel free to arrange an appointment with the teacher at another time.
Wishing you a safe and blessed week,
SCHOOL OPEN DAY
Come beyond our school gate and discover the fantastic opportunities offered at St John the Evangelist during our upcoming Open Day on Wednesday 6 March: 9am-11am. If you’re interested in enrolling your child, it’s a great chance to take a tour of the school, chat with our friendly teachers, and meet other families.
OPENING SCHOOL MASS
Our school community gathered in joyful anticipation on Tuesday, 20 February, to mark the beginning of the new academic year with a solemn and uplifting Opening School Mass. The occasion was an opportunity to relaunch and highlight our School's Vision and Mission. We will continue to refer to our Vision and Mission with students and parents throughout the year.
The Mass provided an opportunity to welcome new students, families, and staff members into the St. John's community, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion. This was highlighted after communion, when the new members of our community stood as we sung, ‘Welcome to the family’.
The Opening School Mass, led by Fr John, served as a powerful reminder of the values and principles that underpin the St. John's, Campbelltown community. It was a time for students, staff, families and carers to come together in prayer and to seek guidance and blessings for the year ahead.
We also acknowledged our Year 6 Student executive (School captains, Vice captains & House captains) and leadership teams at the end of the Mass. Our senior students received their badges and recited their commitment pledge in front of the community.
Thank you to Miss Costello for coordinating our Opening School Mass. Thanks also to the enrichment choir, readers and eucharistic ministers for their involvement in the liturgy.
MEET & GREETS
Thank you to parents/carers for their attendance at our ‘Meet and Greets’ this week. The purpose of this is to provide a greater insight into the learning and well being needs of the children in our care.
The feedback from these meetings has been positive by parents, carers and teachers. If there are any matters that arise during the year about your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
DROP OFF & PICK UP
As we strive to ensure the safety and well-being of all our students, we kindly remind parents & carers not to drop off or park in the bus zone situated on Lindesay Street.
It is imperative for the smooth operation of this area for the safety of our children that the bus zone remains clear at all times. Therefore, we ask for your cooperation in refraining from dropping off or parking vehicles in this designated area in the morning and afternoon.

Proactive testing of mulched areas
You may be aware of recent media reports regarding health concerns related to asbestos contaminated mulch found at a number of playgrounds and schools across Greater Sydney.
To ensure that mulched areas of our grounds are safe, we have undertaken an audit of our landscape suppliers. This audit found NO record of any mulch being supplied to our school by companies connected to the contaminated mulch.
The Catholic Education Office has also arranged for proactive testing of mulched areas across all Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong schools and parishes, to provide families with greater assurance. This testing is precautionary only.
It is important to state again that after completing our audit, there is no reason to expect that any of the mulched areas on our grounds will be contaminated. Regardless, the safety of students, families and staff is always our highest priority, and given the serious nature of this situation we are choosing to take a cautious approach.
We will provide you with an update when the results of the testing are available.
We’d love for you to extend this invitation to another family who may be interested,
