Dear Parents/Carers,
Almighty and ever living God,
you invite us deeper into your world, your people, your Lent.
May this time be one of outward focus;
seeking you in those we often ignore.
Help us live a Lent focused on freedom, generosity, and encounter.
Give us hearts hungry to serve you
and those who need what we have to give.
Amen
I would like to pass on my thanks to Fr John and the Parish for celebrating a beautiful 'Welcome' Mass last Sunday for the families who are new to our school. Fr John wants all our families to know that you are an integral part of the Parish and he looks forward to extending a welcome at all parish Masses and events.
School Open Day
Today we welcomed nearly forty families for a tour and morning tea a part of their enrolment for Kindergarten next year. They were extremely impressed by the tour run by our Year 6 leaders, the engagement of the children in their learning and the friendly welcome they received from students and staff.
I would like to pass on my thanks to the current parents who helped with serving morning tea and for answering any questions that our visitors had.
P & F Meeting - Treasurer needed
At Monday's P & F Meeting, the role of Treasurer was not filled. If there is anyone in our parent community who would be willing to take on this role, please contact the office. The current Treasurer cannot continue in the role as she has been doing it for three years and that is the limit as set out in the Constitution. However, she is more than happy to work alongside anyone who would takes on the role. I am assured that it is not too demanding and their is a lot of support available.
School Strategic Goals
Each year our staff set strategic goals, which are created following an analysis and discernment of data. The three goals for this year are:
- To animate and embed the Vision and Mission
- To create consistent school-wide structures are in place to explicitly teach reading.
- To establish consistent, creative and accessible parent communication methods between school, families and the broader community
At the beginning year Mass we focused on our school's Vision and Mission statement. To help the children gain a deeper understanding of the statement, a short video has been created that will be used in our classrooms. Feel free to watch it using this link:
Wishing you a safe and blessed week,
SCHOOL OPEN DAY
We invited families interested in enrolling their children at St John’s to a special Open Day on Wednesday, 6 March.
It was an opportunity to showcase our facilities, programs, and ethos to potential students and their families. Our Year 6 student leaders did a wonderful job providing tours of the school. On the tour, our families were given a special passport to visit significant spaces to highlight what our school offers.
After the tour there was a special morning tea and hospitality organised by our P & F Association. We hope our Open Day will result in future enrolments for the 2025 school year.
THE PARISH WELCOMES NEW STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
The St. John's Parish, under the guidance of Fr. John Ho, warmly welcomed new students and families on Sunday, 3 March. The event served as a special occasion to integrate newcomers into the parish community and bless the school bags of students for the academic year ahead.
The welcome of new students and families, coupled with the blessing of school bags, served as a poignant reminder of the communal spirit and spiritual foundation that defines the parish of St. John's, Campbelltown. Under the leadership of Fr. John, the parish remains committed to fostering a nurturing environment where faith, fellowship, and education intertwine to enrich the lives of all its members.
POLICE LIAISON TO DISCUSS ONLINE SAFETY
On Thursday, 7 March, Senior Constable Michel will meet with our Stage 2 & 3 students to discuss online safety. It is an important opportunity for students to learn more about these issues when they are engaged in an online environment.
It is crucial to remember that staying involved and informed about our child's online activities is key. It's not about restricting their access, but rather empowering them with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the digital world safely. By working together and fostering a culture of open communication, we can help our children make the most of the internet while staying protected from its potential risks. We hope that the discussions this Thursday will have the impact regarding online safety.
LENT- PROJECT COMPASSION
During Lent, we are called to pray, fast and participate in almsgiving. As part of our Catholic Social Teaching we are obliged to give preferential treatment to the poor.
We thank students and families for the contributions they have already made to Project Compassion during this liturgical season. A special thank you to our Mini Vinnies Team who have continued to promote this important fundraising initiative within our school.
Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion provides those less fortunate than us, the opportunity to learn new skills, enables them to move away from dependence and debt and assists them to become self-supporting. We are extremely grateful for the work of this Catholic organisation.
MAPLE SUPPORTING STUDENT WELL BEING
Maple continues to work hard supporting the wellbeing of students at St John’s. She has visited many classrooms, interacting with lots of students. To the credit of the children they continue to follow our three expectations:
- Say hello to the person and not the dog
- Make space for Maple
- Keep moving, don’t stop and stare
Maple has supported students in a variety of ways and continues to provide positive experiences during her interactions.
