Dear Parents/Carers,
There are times when only a mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappoints
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a mother's heart and a mother's faith
And a mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the angels
And sent from God above.
Amen
I would like to pass on my best wishes to all the mothers and other significant women in our school and parish community as we celebrate Mother's Day this Sunday. At this time I am reminded of the amazing women I am surrounded by. I am eternally grateful that I was raised and cared for by a strong, selfless, loving and devoted mother; thankful that I had grandmothers and many aunts and other adult women who guided and supported me throughout my life. I am also so appreciative that I work in a school community where mothers and others continually step up and get involved with aspects of school life.
In thinking about all these relationships, it also makes me realise just how fortunate I am to have had so many positive experiences and very few negative. This, I know, is not the case for everyone. There are still too many cases where women we know and love may not feel safe and not cared for. It is so important as a community that we continue to educate our young people about respectful and healthy relationships, and this is a joint effort with families being the first and foremost educators of our children.
Wishing you a safe and blessed week,
‘TELL THEM FROM ME’ SURVEY
In the coming weeks we will be inviting students, teachers and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St John the Evangelist, Campbelltown.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:
www.tellthemfromme.com/sjct2024
The survey will close on Friday, 24 May 2024. We thank you in anticipation of your ongoing support.
TERM 2 CLASS CAPTAINS
It is wonderful to be recognised for leadership qualities. We have had many students from years 1 - 6 recognised for such qualities by their peers and teachers. We will congratulate these children who have been selected as Class Captains for this term and look forward to providing opportunities in which they can demonstrate their leadership skills.
These students will be provided with their badge on Monday, 13 May (Week 3) at the morning assembly. We will inform parents via Compass of who our Term 2 Class Captains are, so you might be available to grab a photo and see your child receive their badge.
We are confident that our student leaders will be great examples for others demonstrating our Good Samaritan values and ‘Walking in Peace and Joy’.
CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL Our Cross Country Carnival was held on the final day of Term 1. It had been rescheduled due to wet weather the week before.
The event was organised at Hurley Park and was a great success. It had been quite a number of years since the cross country carnival was held there. Apart from the running of the cross country for different grades and age groups, there were also many ball games and relays in which our students engaged in.
Thanks to our Year 6 students and House Captains for their assistance on the day, particularly in supporting our K-2 students. Thank you also to the parents who were able to volunteer their time to assist in the running of the carnival.
A special thank you to Mrs New for coordinating the Cross Country carnival. These whole school events take many hours to organise and we greatly appreciate it.
As a result of the carnival, we have several students who will represent our school at the upcoming Diocese Cross Country Carnival being held on Tuesday, 28 May. We wish all those students the very best and will recognise them in an upcoming newsletter.
At our Monday morning assembly, our Cross Country age champions received their medallions. We congratulate them and wish them every success at the Diocesan Carnival.

PARENT COMMUNICATION SURVEY RESULTS
Thanks once again to parents and carers for contributing to our communication survey. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we had a great sample of over 100 responses to the survey. Below is a summary of the results:
66.3% of Parents/Carers found the Term Overviews useful
Term overviews are provided at the beginning of the term outlining areas of the curriculum for the grade.
43.9% - Weekly, twice a week & daily
48.5% - Fortnightly, twice a term & once a term
37% See Saw
8% Class Dojo
16% Google Classroom
35% Compass
4% Email
Format- Comment summary
- Overall parents who replied to the survey liked See Saw and thought it was a great way to see student work samples
- There was a sense of frustration by some parents regarding communication regarding their child’s learning. They would be pleased with any format for an improvement in this area.
- Some parents are hoping that the format does not change each year so they become familiar in viewing their child’s work samples
As a result of the data received by parents/carers and collaboration with teachers it has been decided that:
- Term Overviews will continue to be sent home at the beginning of the term
- Individual student work will be shared at a minimum of three times a term
- See Saw will be used to share student work from K-6
A meeting will be organised mid-term to further outline our future directions to provide consistent, creative and accessible parent communication methods between school and families. The date of this meeting will be provided in the newsletter and via Compass.
