Dear Parents and Carers,
As mentioned in previous newsletters, St John’s has started to use the Compass School Management System. Compass is a student information system that will allow you to access up-to-date and meaningful information about our school and your child’s progress including accessing school academic reports.
Next week, letters will be sent home to all parents containing login details, which will enable everyone to access the system. We will be holding two important parent workshops in the school library, facilitated by Catholic Education Office Staff in Week Seven on Tuesday 3rd September. One will be held for parents who drop off their children at 8:30am and again at 9:15am after assembly and the other at the end of the day at 2:30pm.
We will also have another workshop on Thursday 5th September at 2:30pm. It would be great to put these dates into your calendar. These workshops will greatly assist parents in effectively accessing and using the Compass App.
From next term, the current Skoolbag App will no longer be in use at the school because it will be replaced by Compass, which acts as a “one-stop shop”.
EXCERPT FROM THE UNIFORM POLICY
Parents are reminded of the following expectations in relation to hairstyles and cuts –
- The emphasis is on ‘neat and tidy’
- Shoulder length or longer hair for girls is to be tied back with school coloured ribbons
- No bleached / dyed hair
- Extremes of haircuts are not permitted, e.g., undercuts, long fringes with short on top, tracks, shaved, words, lines etc., are unsuitable
- The emphasis is on evenly cut hair. Hair must be neatly groomed (combed or brushed) away from the student’s face. To reduce the transfer of head lice, hair that is collar length or longer is to be plaited, braided or tied back with hair accessories. Long hair not tied up could be ‘unsafe for the student and likely to result in a risk to health and safety of students and others’.
- Hair should not be dyed un-natural colours during the school term. Inappropriate hairstyles (e.g. inappropriate words, shapes, stripes cut into the hair could ‘negatively influence the normal school operations’ and are therefore not permitted.

New Principal, St John the Evangelist Catholic Parish Primary School, Campbelltown.
PARENT & COMMUNITY Consultation Survey
Dear Parents & Community Members of St John the Evangelist Catholic Parish Primary School, Campbelltown.
The process of recruiting a replacement for Principal Mrs Christina Murray is being carried out. This position has been advertised, and interviews are planned in the near future to fill this vacancy.
As part of the practice for this appointment, it is customary for the Catholic Education Office to conduct a process of consultation with members of the school community. This consultation process will give members of the community an opportunity to highlight the positive aspects of the school they would like to see maintained, to identify areas they would like to see the school focus on improving in the future, and to provide some of the attributes they would like to see in the person being selected to lead their school on its continuing journey.
We invite all parents & community members to complete this short survey by Wednesday 4 September 2019. If you wish to fill in this survey on paper, please see the school administrative staff for a copy. This is your opportunity to be involved in the appointment of the person who will lead your school in the coming years.
