Dear Parents and Carers,
Blessing and Opening of new facilities
The Blessing and Opening of our new facilities took place yesterday and it proved to be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our school. Not only were the invited guests impressed by the new buildings and the way the whole site looked, they made particular mention of the way in which the students welcomed them, and respectfully and reverently participated in the ceremony. Bishop Brian reminded all of us that a school is more than its buildings - it is the people, and it will be the people that the children remember long after they finish their schooling with us. Thank you to the parents who were able to attend.
Our school also thanks Bishop Brian, Mr Peter Hill (Director of Schools), Dr Mike Freelander (Federal MP for Macarthur) and Srs Geraldine and Mary (Sisters of the Good Samaritan) for their presence.
ANNUAL SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Friday, 6 December, our school held the annual swimming carnival at The Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre, Bradbury. The event was very successful, bringing together students from Years 3 to 6 (Competitive swimmers from Years 1 & 2) for a day filled with spirited competition and of course, lots of fun in the water!
On Monday, 16 December at our Monday morning assembly, we will announce the winning House and Swimming Age Champions.
SCHOOL PRIDE HOUSE COMPETITION
In Week 10, our School Pride House Competition will be awarded to the students who have collected the most tokens for their house by consistently wearing the correct uniform and participating in Waste Free Wednesday this term.
The winning house will be announced on Friday, 13 December to students during the morning messages and parents/carers notified via Compass. The reward will take place on Monday, 16 December. On this day students from the winning house will be rewarded with a mufti day and Zooper Dooper.
YEAR 6 GRADUATION DINNER
The Year 6 Graduation Celebrations commenced last night with dinner at the Campbelltown Catholic Club. Congratulations to all the students on the way in which they presented themselves to celebrate in style together.
We shared a beautiful meal of chicken schnitzel, chips and salad together. There was a special presentation of the graduation cake/cupcakes. A special thank you goes to Mrs Marten for creating these cakes for the students. Mr Moroney spoke and acknowledged the teachers who contributed towards making the night possible.
Then it was time to hit the dance floor. The students enjoyed the opportunity to bust a move with their classmates to celebrate and enjoy this special occasion.
Thank you to Ms Afchal, Mr Nash, Mr Toohey for their efforts in organising a special night for the students. Thanks also to the staff members who were able to attend and celebrate with our senior students.
JUBILEE YEAR 2025- PILGRIMS OF HOPE
Next year, 2025, is a Jubilee Year, where the Church will celebrate the theme Pilgrims Of Hope, encouraging young people and everyone to find hope in God during tough times.
During this time people focus on renewal, forgiveness, and a fresh start. This is a significant celebration for the global Catholic Church where all communities of faith are highly encouraged to participate.

Celebrating a Year of Mission and Community Spirit
As we close the year, I want to express my deepest appreciation to everyone in our St. John’s community for their incredible contributions to showing mission in action. This year has been filled with inspiring events that truly reflected our school values of respecting the dignity of each person and our mission to create a happy and safe environment based on Gospel values.
Our Winter Appeal fundraiser raised an impressive $542, demonstrating the generosity and compassion of our school community. The Winter Sleep Out event was particularly moving, as Year 5 and 6 students spent a cold night outdoors and packaged care packs to better understand and support those experiencing homelessness.
Through the Socktober appeal, we not only raised $436.80 but also deepened awareness of the challenges faced by children in Mongolia. This effort made a significant impact, reminding us all of the importance of standing in solidarity with vulnerable communities.
Finally, our Christmas Toy Drive was an overwhelming success, with the staffroom overflowing with brand-new toys for children aged 0–12. This heartwarming effort from our school community ensured that many children would experience joy and hope during the festive season.
These acts of kindness and dedication perfectly align with our school’s Gospel values, highlighting the thoughtfulness, generosity, and compassion of our students, staff, and families. I am particularly grateful for the incredible efforts of our Year 5 Mini Vinnies team, whose advocacy and leadership have empowered our school to make such a meaningful difference.
Thank you to everyone for your unwavering support, dedication, and thoughtfulness this year. Together, we have truly made a positive impact on the lives of others. I am so proud and thankful to be part of this amazing community at St. John’s.
Wishing you all a blessed and joyful holiday season!
Ms Afchal
