Reflection from Pope Francis for Lent
Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
Fast from worries and have trust in God.
Fast from complaints; contemplate simplicity.
Fast from pressures and be prayerful Fast from bitterness; fill your hearts with joy.
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate.
Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
Fast from words; be silent and listen.
School Cross Country Carnival
I would like to pass on my thanks to the many parents who were able to assist at last Friday's Cross Country Carnival. We had great support with course marshalls and place judging, as well as a lot of parents working hard all day to provide snow cones and other snacks for the students. Your assistance on such a hot day was greatly appreciated.
The carnival was also the first time that our school was able to use the twelve new shade shelters that were funded by the P & F. They looked fantastic all set up at Hurley Park and were well used on the day. Sincere thanks to the P & F for this very practical donation.
Staff Professional Development Day
You are reminded that our next Staff Professional Development Day is being held on Monday 31 March. Students do not attend school on this day.
MORNING ASSEMBLY
We value the presence of our parents and carers at our morning assemblies, particularly on a Monday. It is important that we all share the responsibility in developing clear routines and supporting our students as they transition into school each day. To ensure a smooth and organised start, we kindly ask all parents and carers to sit or stand at the big steps during the assembly.
By allowing students to move forward independently into school, we are helping them develop important life skills such as independence, resilience and confidence. This also ensures their safety and enables them to be ready for learning as they begin their school day.
Your cooperation in this process is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your continued support in fostering a positive and structured environment for our students.
ARRIVING AT SCHOOL
We are committed to fostering resilience, independence, and a sense of belonging in our students. As part of this, we kindly ask for your support in ensuring that your child sits with their classmates under the COLA each morning before the start of the school day.
This routine helps students:
✅ Build resilience by developing confidence in their morning transitions.
✅ Foster independence by learning to prepare for the day ahead with their peers.
✅ Follow school procedures that promote consistency and a smooth start to learning.
By encouraging your child to join their classmates under the COLA each morning, you are supporting their social and emotional development while also helping to maintain a structured and positive start to the day for all students. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and partnership.
HARMONY DAY
Harmony Day is held on 21 March, an opportunity when we celebrate the cultural diversity of our school community. This Friday, students can wear vibrant shades of orange and/or cultural attire as we come together to honour our unique heritages.
Harmony Day is not just about recognising our differences but celebrating the strength and beauty that comes from our diverse backgrounds. It's a day to foster understanding, respect, and inclusivity within our school community.
Whilst Harmony Day is still predominantly celebrated in Australia, people celebrate it worldwide by reflecting on the ways they can live in harmony with their neighbours, regardless of their background or circumstances.
LENT- PROJECT COMPASSION
During Lent, we are called to pray, fast and participate in almsgiving. As part of our Catholic Social Teaching we are obliged to give preferential treatment to the poor.
We thank students and families for the contributions they have already made to Project Compassion during this liturgical season. A special thank you to our Mini Vinnies Team who have continued to promote this important fundraising initiative within our school.
Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion provides those less fortunate than us, the opportunity to learn new skills, enables them to move away from dependence and debt and assists them to become self-supporting. We are extremely grateful for the work of this Catholic organisation.
CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL
Our Cross Country Carnival was held on Friday, 14 March. The carnival was held at Hurley Park and even in the heat was a great success. Apart from the Cross Country races the children also participated in many ball games and relays.
Thanks to some of our Year 6 students for their assistance on the day, particularly in supporting our K-2 students. Thank you also to the parents and students from John Therry Catholic College who were able to volunteer their time to assist in the running of the carnival.
A special thank you to Mrs New, Mrs Sinfeld and their team for coordinating the Cross Country carnival. These whole school events take many hours to organise and we greatly appreciate it.
Thanks also to our P & F who did an amazing job supplying snow cones to students after their races.
It was another wonderful event for our school community.
At our Monday morning assembly, our Cross Country age champions will receive their medallions. We congratulate them and wish them every success at the Diocesan Carnival.

Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness
At St John's we have quite a few kids who have severe food allergies, we encourage you to be mindful when packing your child's lunch box that you avoid bringing in nut products. Also encourage your child to be aware of those around them with allergies, they must keep the allergens away from them, wash hands after eating and never share food.
What is Anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction. It affects either a person’s airway and how they breathe, and/or the way blood is moved around the body (blood pressure). It is potentially life threatening and must always be treated as a medical emergency.
The most common causes of anaphylaxis are food, medications and insects. The things that cause or trigger anaphylaxis are called allergens.
We have been advised that we have a replacement crossing supervisor starting soon but in the mean time please take care crossing the road with your children
