Dear Parents and Carers,
God of all creation, bring justice and peace to our world.
Teach us to be peacemakers. Guide us in our pursuit of
justice and the common good. Inspire us to welcome all, forgive
all, and love all. Direct us as we walk in the shadow of Jesus: the
Way, the Truth, and the Life. Inspire us to perceive the world
through your eyes, that we might find hope and joy each day,
supportive of each other, for the sake of your Kingdom.
I would like to pass on my thanks to the P & F for their wonderful support of the Mother’s Day Stall and the Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. Both events were extremely well supported by the school community, with a large number of visitors joining us for the afternoon tea. There was a wonderful community feel and the P & F put in a lot of effort to provide a beautiful display for photos, as well as refreshments.
School Goal – Reading
This year, we're making a conscious effort to boost reading engagement both within our classroom walls and in the comfort of your own homes. The more students read, the more they grow – not just academically, but also in their imagination, empathy, and understanding of the world around them.
The support you provide at home is invaluable in nurturing a lifelong love of reading. Here are some simple yet powerful ways you can encourage reading:
- Be a Reading Role Model: Let your children see you reading! Whether it's a novel, a newspaper, or a magazine, showing that reading is a valued activity speaks volumes.
- Create a Reading-Friendly Environment: Designate a cozy reading corner at home with good lighting and comfortable seating. Make books easily accessible.
- Read Aloud Together: Even older children often enjoy being read to. It's a wonderful way to bond and explore different genres and stories.
- Visit Your Local Library: Make regular trips to the library a family outing. The library offers a vast selection of books and often hosts engaging programs for children.
- Talk About Books: Ask your child about what they are reading. Discuss characters, plotlines, and their favourite parts. Show genuine interest in their reading journey.
- Make it Fun, Not a Chore: Avoid making reading feel like a task. Let your child choose books that genuinely interest them. Even comics and graphic novels count.
- Limit Screen Time: Encourage reading as a fantastic alternative to excessive screen time.
Staff Development Days for Term 2
You are reminded of the two Staff Development Days being held this term:
- Friday 6 June
- Friday 4 July (this means the end of Term 2 for the students is Thursday 3 July)
Students do not come to school on these days.
With every blessing for the week ahead,
Paul Moroney
Principal
TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY
By the end of this month, it is hoped that students in Years 4-6, teachers and parents will have provided feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process for improvement.
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter and on Compass, we would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. We value the role of parents and carers within our school community and would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at St John the Evangelist, Campbelltown.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey on your computer or mobile device by using the URL below:
http://tellthemfromme.com/sjct2025
The survey will close on Friday, 30 May 2025. We thank you in anticipation of your ongoing support.
TERM 2 CLASS CAPTAINS
It is wonderful to be recognised for leadership qualities. We have had many students from years 1 - 6 recognised for such qualities by their peers and teachers. We congratulate those children who have been selected as Class Captains for this term and look forward to providing opportunities in which they can demonstrate their leadership skills.
We are confident that our student leaders will be great examples for others demonstrating our Good Samaritan values and ‘Walking in Peace and Joy’. Their names are below:

MOTHER’S DAY LITURGY AND PICNIC
On Sunday, 11 May we celebrated Mother's Day. We are thankful for our mothers, grandmothers, aunts and all those women who love and care for us.
On Monday, 12 May, our school celebrated with a Mother’s Day Liturgy as part of our Morning Assembly. It was a special opportunity for the important women in the lives of our students to join us in a whole school celebration.
Thank you to the Year 4 Teachers and Students for leading us in a beautiful liturgy. The prayers were heartfelt and the children were reverent throughout.
At the second lunch break on Friday, 9 May, we held our Mother’s Day Picnic. There was a wonderful community spirit throughout. It was fantastic to see so many mum’s, grandmother’s, aunt’s and other special women in the lives of our children attend. We look forward to further opportunities like this one in the future.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY
Walk Safely to School Day is on May 16 this year. It’s a day for families to walk to school together and have a conversation about road safety.
“Everyone has the right to get home safe to their loved ones every day, without exceptions.”
Peter Frazer, OAM - President of Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group
Walk Safely to School Day also encourages positive environmental action, better use of public transport with reduced car-dependency and encourages parents and carers to walk more, reducing dangerous traffic congestion around schools.
Being active every day, including walking to school, can help make a difference for many Australians. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or carer - everyone has a role to play in helping children to lead active healthy lives.
Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids, so start planning your Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 16 May 2025!
