Last Day of School for 2025 |
Loving God, We thank you for the life and witness of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop, who showed us how to live with courage, compassion, and unwavering faith. May her example inspire us to always be attentive to the needs of others, especially those who are vulnerable. Help us to be people of justice and hope, always trusting in your divine providence. Through her intercession, may we grow in wisdom, grace, and love.
Amen.
Dear Parents/Carers,
This Friday is the feast day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop which is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on her legacy. Her life serves as a powerful example of faith, courage, and dedication to serving others, especially the most vulnerable. Mary MacKillop’s journey began with a simple desire to provide education for poor children in rural Australia, a dream that blossomed into the establishment of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.
Her famous words, "Never see a need without doing something about it," are a call to action for all of us. They remind us that we are all called to be compassionate and to make a difference in our community, no matter how small the act of kindness may seem. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop's enduring legacy is not just in the schools and institutions she founded, but in the spirit of justice and generosity that she instilled.
Our school community will be demonstrating this in two ways this week. Firstly through our participation in Jeans for Genes Day on Thursday, August 7th. This important day raises vital funds for the Children's Medical Research Institute, who are dedicated to finding cures and treatments for children living with genetic diseases. You may be aware that one of our students, Sophia in Year 3, is one of the 'faces' of Jeans for Genes. Her story can be seen on their website. It is exciting that the 'Today Show' will be doing live crosses to our school on the morning of 7 August.
Secondly, this Friday night some of our Year 5 & 6 students will participate in the Mini Vinnies Winter Sleepout, an experience that will give them a small taste of what life is like for people living without a home. It is hoped that this will also enable the students to have a greater sense of gratitude for what they have in their life.
The spirit of Mary MacKillop is alive and well amongst our school community this week!
Wishing you a blessed week,
Paul Moroney
Principal
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL
This is just a reminder that families have access to the SeeSaw app to view the classwork of their child.
SeeSaw is a secure, private app that allows you to see the work your child is doing throughout the term. You'll get a direct look at their learning journey through photos, videos and audio recordings of their classwork. It's a fantastic way to celebrate their progress, comment on their work and have meaningful conversations about what they're learning.
If you haven’t connected to the app, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. We can send you an invite or provide instructions on how to download the app and link to your child’s class. We look forward to continuing to share children’s work with parents and carers.
ST MARY OF THE CROSS LITURGY- YEAR 1
On Friday, 8 August, we celebrate the feast day for St Mary MacKillop. She has certainly played a significant role in over 200 years of Catholic Education.
Thank you to the Year 1 students and teachers for organising a special liturgy for our school community at Monday morning’s assembly. They highlighted the wonderful model St Mary of the Cross is for us all. All the students did an excellent job participating in different parts of the liturgy.
Please pause for a moment this Friday and offer your prayers to Australia’s first saint.
Whatever troubles may be before you, accept them bravely, remembering
Whom you are trying to follow.
Do not be afraid.
Love one another, bear with one another, and let charity guide you all your life.
God will reward you as only He can.
- St Mary of the Cross
TERM 3 CLASS CAPTAINS
Congratulations to the children below who have been selected as Class Captains for this term. We look forward to providing opportunities in which they can demonstrate their leadership skills in coming weeks.
Our Class Captains for Term 3 received their badge from Mr Moroney and recited the ‘Class Captain Pledge’ at Monday morning's assembly. We are confident that our student leaders will demonstrate our Good Samaritan values and ‘Walk in Peace and Joy.’

KINDERGARTEN EXCURSION TO CALMSLEY HILL CITY FARM
On Friday, 1 August, our Kindergarten students, SSOs and teachers went on an exciting excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm. The farm has an extensive wet weather program, so they were still able to attend. Thankfully the predicted wet weather did not arrive on the day.
