Dear Parents and Carers,

We would like to warmly invite all parents to a Morning Tea to welcome Mr Moroney to St John’s as Principal from 2020. This will be an opportunity for parents to introduce themselves to Mr Moroney.
This morning tea will be held on Friday 6 December at 10:30am in the school hall. Please RSVP to info@sjctdow.catholic.edu.au by Friday 29 November.
We look forward to seeing you there.
PARISH PRESBYTERY
Please be advised that the Presbytery car park belongs to a private residence. It is a private parking space that is restricted to people visiting the presbytery or the parish office.
St John’s parents are requested not to park in this area, especially before school and at dismissal time.
Please be mindful that the people visiting the presbytery are often doing so during very difficult times eg. to prepare for the funeral of a loved one. It is unreasonable that anyone visiting the parish office is unable to park there due to spaces being taken by members of the school community. Convenient, alternative parking can be found a short walk away at Campbelltown RSL.
Thank you in advance for respecting this request.
KINDER ORIENTATION AND PLAYGROUP
Yesterday, 12 November, we had the first of three orientation sessions for Kinder 2020.
This was an opportunity to formally welcome all those parents who are commencing in partnership with St John’s in the education of their child in 2020.
These three orientation sessions are compulsory and while the parents are engaged in three information sessions the children have the opportunity to spend time in the Kindergarten classrooms.
Playgroup is also continuing on a Monday and Thursday morning from 9:15am until 10:30am.
These sessions allow the 2020 Kindergarten children to begin to form friendships in preparation for school next year. The children are encouraged to bring some fruit for morning tea.
The final playgroup session will be held next Thursday 21 November.
ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT - PARENT SURVEY
Welcoming our new students and their families is certainly an exciting time for St John’s. It is also a reminder that sadly, this year is quickly slipping away before us. At the moment, although we are very much in the midst of continuing with our ‘business as usual,’ we are also very much immersed in planning for the directions our school will take in 2020.
I am currently involved in attempting to finalize enrolments and undertaking recruitment and placement of staff for 2020. All parents are invited to contribute to an annual survey that will assist in the completion of our Annual School Report. I encourage you to provide your very valued input that will assist us in discerning and planning for improvements and initiatives for 2020.
The survey can be accessed, by pasting the URL below into your web browser.

Carols under the COLA
On Thursday 12 December, Australian religious songwriter and singer, Andrew Chinn, will be visiting our school to lead an Advent/Christmas Concert with our children. Andrew’s songs, such as “These Hands”, “Rainbow”, “An African Blessing” and “Rise Up!” are used in classrooms and liturgies around Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. Parents/parishioners are warmly invited to be a part of the celebration of faith and fun. There is no charge for adults.
The concert will take place under the COLA at 6 pm. We look forward to seeing you there. Please bring your chair.

Digital Citizenship Work Did you know that in 2020 the Catholic diocese of Wollongong will be following a new social media policy? This policy offers guidance for staff, families and students in their use of social media. One of the main aims of the policy is to help ensure student safety when using digital technology. One of the expectations of the policy is that all K-12 schools within the Wollongong diocese teach digital citizenship to the students. This must take place annually so that students are consistently reminded of the expectations and best practice for internet use. At St. John’s we will have a big focus on digital citizenship during our Term 1 learning. Teachers will also receive digital citizenship training at the beginning of each school year to ensure consistency across our diocese. 2020 Social Media Policy Parent Sessions This policy has implications for staff, students and parents. Our school will be hosting an information session at alternate times for interested parents to understand the role of the policy and its implications on parent social media use. The sessions will be facilitated by Rebecca Hill from the Catholic Education Office and will run at the following times in the tiered learning space. Date: Tuesday 26 November 2019 |
