Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to Term 3
We have had a positive start at school with the children for Term 3. They seem to have had a good opportunity over the holidays to recharge their batteries. It has been pleasing to see them settle back into good learning routines and maintaining positive relationships with one another. We look forward to, hopefully, a term with minimal disruption!
On Monday we welcomed back Mrs Runko to our staff following a period of maternity leave. She will be teaching one of our Year 1 classes. We also welcomed Miss Tobin to our school as Assistant Principal. Hopefully in the near future there will be opportunities for you to meet both of these new staff members.
Alpha Online
There has been a recent final push for the Alpha Online program for parents and carers. As the promotional material indicates, it is a 10-week program which allows you to explore Christianity in a friendly, non-judgemental environment. You are encouraged to even be part of the first session to find out more about it if you are concerned about being able to commit to the full 10 weeks.
Term 3 COVID Restrictions and Procedures
The restrictions that were in place at the end of Term 2 remain in place now. You are urged to visit the Parent Portal on the diocesan website to keep up to date. From our school's perspective, the most important aspects to keep in mind are:
- children should not be at school if they have flu-like symptoms, and they should only return following medical clearance
- parents and carers are unable to be on school grounds, except at pick-up time in the afternoon. I am grateful to those parents who ensure they follow the pick-up procedure by not staying on school grounds for more than is necessary
- our school continues to have a cleaner onsite during each school day attending to high touch surfaces.
God bless.
Dear Parents
I was hoping to be able to introduce myself to most of you in person, however, in our current climate I will have to do so through the newsletter. For those of you I haven’t met, my name is Gabi Tobin, and I I feel very honoured to be appointed to the Assistant Principal at St Johns the Evangelist Catholic Primary School.
I live in Wollongong and am an active member of the Lumen Christi Pastoral Region. My last role was with the Primary School Improvement Team at the Catholic Education Office. Prior to that I held the position of Assistant Principal at St Therese, West Wollongong and Our Lady Help of Christians, Rosemeadow.
The staff have been most welcoming and I would like to particularly thank Mr Moroney, Mrs Billet and Mrs Libro for their support and assistance leading up to, and during my first week.
I have begun meeting your children and hope to have been in every classroom by the end of next week. I have been very impressed with their manners and attitudes to learning - a real credit to you, their parents, and of course their teachers.
In support with Fr John Ho, Fr Feleki Tautunu, Fr Anthony Crook and Mr Moroney, I hope to make a positive impact and build on the wonderful work of past and present staff here at St John the Evangelist.
COVID 19 places restrictions on interactions at the moment, but I will be on the playground most afternoons, so please say hello. Alternatively, please do not hesitate to contact me via the office if you have any questions, concerns or even want to say hi. I look forward to the time when I can converse with you all in a less socially distant environment!
Miss Gabi Tobin

Change of Sport Days year 1 & 2
There has been a change of sports days for Year 1 and Year 2
Year 1 is now Wednesday and Friday
Year 2 is now Monday and Friday
Due to COVID restrictions parents are currently not allowed on school grounds. We also need to limit the amount of visitors that come into the office, so please only come into the office if necessary.
It is important that you let the office know as soon as possible, via email or phone, if you are picking your child up prior to dismissal (including time). We can then arrange to have them in the office ready for you. Please note we are unable to arrange collection of your children during break times (11.15am-12 & 1.15pm-2pm) without prior notice. Please do not enter late arrivals or early departures into compass, this needs to be done by the school office.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
If your child is away from school it is important to let the school know as soon as possible with a specific reason, e.g. what type of illness they have, If you are filling in a note on the Compass app, please add an explanation in the details/comments box .
It is really important to keep your child at home if they are unwell, this will help with the spread of illness. In the current COVID 19 climate ,It is preferrable that you get a medical clearance for your child to return to school
If your child has a covid test, please notify the school when they have the test and as soon as you get your results please forward these on to the school.
Kindergarten 2021 Enrolment Applications
Please note that applications for Kindergarten 2021 are still being accepted. Interviews are curently being held so forms will need to be received as soon as possible. Please contact the school office for more information.
