Dear Parents and Carers,
As a Catholic school community, we continue to remember the Southby family in our prayers this week as they prepare for Travis’ funeral on Thursday 13th June at 1pm. During this time of great sadness we remember Travis’ parents, Simone and Greg, his siblings Olivia and Michael (Year 2) and his extended family. As he was a former student at St John’s from 2011 – 2017 and also currently enrolled at John Therry Catholic High School, we remember his many friends who are grieving his loss.
STAFF NEWS
We wish Mr Scott Borg (Year 5 Gold) well as he commences leave this week, to prepare to celebrate the arrival of his first child. We wish both Scott and Katrina many blessing as they prepare for this special addition to the Borg family.
Year 5 Gold parents will have the opportunity to meet with Mr Borg for Parent Teacher Interviews when he returns next term.
SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS – Tuesday 18th June
School Photographs will be taken next Tuesday 18th June. It is very important that all students come to school wearing full winter uniform.
This includes a school tie for the boys and a tab tie for the girls.
Please ensure that your child is dressed in full winter uniform next Tuesday 18th June.
It has become apparent due to the colder weather that some students are wearing different items of clothing with their school uniform. Parents are reminded that if your child is wearing an item of clothing that is not part of the uniform that they need to bring a note to explain why they are wearing this item of clothing instead of the correct uniform.
Thank you for your support with this matter.

Coding Club Update
This term Years 3 - 6 have been working hard to develop coding skills during lunch time Coding Club. The club is run during some play breaks and allows students to develop problem solving and logical skills by writing codes.
Years 3 & 4
Years 3 & 4 have been meeting once a week to build their skills when coding. They have been learning how to write instructions that program our school robot to achieve a goal. The students have developed the skills to program their bot to use light, sound and movement.
Years 5 & 6
Years 5 & 6 have been meeting twice a week to develop their understanding of coding. They were challenged to write a code that instructs their mBot to perform a dance sequence following set criteria. The students had an absolute blast perfecting and showing off their dance routines.
Future Planning
Our staff and students are extremely grateful to the P&F for their generosity in supporting the purchase of new bots for infants. They have been extremely excited to practice using their bots to write and follow basic codes.

Year 1 Bicycle Education Centre Excursion
On Friday 7th June 2019, the students in Year 1 attended Campbelltown Bicycle Education Centre as part of our learning about Road Safety. We walked down to the bike track, and on the way we practised walking safely and crossing the road with care. At the bike track, we learned about how to wear our helmets safely to protect our brain. First we walked along the bike track so that we could learn the road rules. We learned what to do at a stop sign, give way sign, pedestrian crossing, roundabout and traffic lights. We were then all fitted with a helmet and given a bike to ride around the track. We had so much fun riding around the track, and learned lots about the road rules. Back at school, we continued our learning about Road Safety and even did an experiment with eggs and helmets! It was a really wonderful day!
