Dear Parents/Carers,
As a follow up to the letter that was distributed to parents yesterday, I assure you once again that the police continue to regard the threat as low risk and urge us to keep operating as normal. There is currently an extra presence of security around the school and parish site as a matter of precaution. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office.
Parish First Reconciliation
We have a number of students at our school celebrating their First Reconciliation next week. Following Baptism, this is the second sacrament that we receive as members of the Catholic church community. Participating in this sacrament gives the children the opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and to experience the power of loving forgiveness. It also enables them to reflect on how way they can live a Christian life.
Once again, I would like to acknowledge the commitment of Fr John and the parish, with support from Mrs Hampton, for ensuring that the Sacraments have been able to continue this year in the midst of the COVID restrictions.
Swimming Carnival
A notification will be pushed out soon on Compass regarding our school Swimming Carnival. It will take place on 9 December, however it will only be for competitive swimmers (i.e. they must be able to competently swim 50m). This is because we do not have exclusive use of the indoor pool, a requirement of the COVID directives.
P & F 5c Fundraiser
There is some information in today's Newsletter regarding a 5c challenge to raise funds for the P & F. Your support of this is greatly appreciated, particularly considering the challenges that the P & F have faced during this year.
'Christmas' Mufti Day - Friday 27 November
As we are unable to have a Christmas Concert this year, we will be creating a digital 'Christmas Card' to be shared with families. To support this, we are asking children to come to school in 'Christmas mufti' on Friday 27 November for a day of filming. Information about the type of clothes children can wear will be provided.
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable week,
Week 7 Uniform Focus - Watches and Fingernails
Next week our uniform focus will be on watches and fingernails.
Our uniform policy states:
- Small watches may be worn, providing they do not distract from the overall appearance of the uniform.
- Fitbits or step counters may be worn; however, all other smart watches are prohibited.
- No nail polish, acrylic nails, SNS or Shellac.
If your child is complying with these dot points they will receive a token for their house. The winning house at the end of the year will have a mufti day, an ice block and some extra play time. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

St John's Digital Christmas Card
St John’s Digital Christmas Card
Due to COVID restrictions, we’ve had to think creatively about how we will celebrate Christmas this year as a school. We have decided to make a digital Christmas card that will be made up of students dancing and performing. We hope to involve all students in this celebration and the final product will be shared on our school’s Facebook page allowing the wider community, such as grandparents, to also join in the celebration.
On Friday 27 November teachers will be filming their classes performing dances as part of the digital Christmas card. On this day we are asking students to wear the following mufit clothes:
Primary - Christmas clothing. This could include a Christmas shirt, Santa hat, reindeer ears, Christmas earrings, red, green or white clothes, etc.
Infants - Reindeer inspired clothing. This could include brown or white clothing. Alternatively it could include any Christmas clothing with reindeer antlers or a red nose.
All children need to wear clothing appropriate for dancing, and enclosed shoes.
Finding suitable clothing should not cause any angst for your family. If you have any questions regarding clothing on this day, please contact your child’s teacher.
Clothing Pool will be opened this Friday the 20th November from 8.30am in the school Hall.
If you are unwell please do not attend and remember to adhere to social distancing and good hygiene practices
Mount Carmel Year 7 Orientation Day
Orientation day for Mount Carmel, was on the 20 November 2020. Due to Covid restrictions this date has changed to 4 December 2020.
We will be contacting parents directly to inform them of the change, along with details of the day
Birthday Celebration Sharing Restrictions
Just a reminder that due to Covid restrictions and CEO directives Children are unable to bring in any type of food/gifts for sharing with their class. There is the option of purchasing Zooper Doopers from the canteen, Just give the canteen a couple of days notice to ensure they have enough, you can order through the office and a bill will be sent home.
Thank you for your understanding with this matter
Due to COVID restrictions parents are currently not allowed on school grounds. We also need to limit the amount of visitors that come into the office, so please only come into the office if necessary.
It is important that you let the office know as soon as possible, via email or phone, if you are picking your child up prior to dismissal (including time). We can then arrange to have them in the office ready for you. Please note we are unable to arrange collection of your children during break times (11.15am-12 & 1.15pm-2pm) without prior notice. Please do not enter late arrivals or early departures into compass, this needs to be done by the school office.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
