Dear Parents/Carers,
The Advent Wreath, with its four candles, is a beautiful symbol that is used through this season as we prepare for Christmas. Each of the four candles has a specific meaning and, for this week, the second candle is all about 'peace.'
Let's focus on what the theme of peace is about. Firstly, it is a reminder that Jesus, through his life and example, gives us practical ways in which we can be at peace within oursleves: by trusting in His love and knowing that He will be with us always. Secondly, the second candle reminds us that we should be at peace with others, seeking and offering forgiveness when it is needed, knowing that we all have our crosses to bear. Finally, we are reminded that Jesus was born into our world as the 'prince of peace,' to bring the love of God to all of us. Advent and Christmas give us the opportunity to experience some of this peace.
Digital Christmas Card
As you know, we have been busy creating a Digital Christmas Card. It will be ready for us to share it with you tomorrow afternoon.
We hope you enjoy it!
Student Reports
Student reports are now available via the Compass app. In line with the flexible curriculum requirements as outlined by NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as a result of the impacts of COVID, not all outcomes in each Key Learning Area (KLA) were taught, assessed and reported upon. Therefore, the overall grades in each KLA have been omitted from this Semester 2 Report for 2020.
For those parents who have a student in Year 6, please note that if your child is not attending a diocesan high school (John Therry, Magdalene or Mt Carmel) then you will no longer have access to Compass after your child finishes school this year. You therefore may want to downlaod the student reports so that you still have access to them in the future.
Also, parents of children in Year 5 may need a copy of this report for enrolment into high school. Therefore, you will be able to download and print a copy of the report for this purpose.
Year 6 Farewell
Last night we were able to hold a farewell for our Year 6 students. While we had to instigate some changes this year so as to be COVID-safe, we were so pleased to be able to have the chance to thank the students and their parents for their contribution to St John's and to wish them well for the next exciting phase of schooling.
Easing of COVID Restrictions
It has been pleasing to see across our nation that many of the restrictions are being eased. This will no doubt help families in their preparations for the upcoming holiday season. While there have been some easing of restrictions for schools, we will be maintaining our current procedures through to the last day of school next week, particularly to avoid large gatherings of adults. It is hoped that at the start of school next year we will be able to make some changes, especially to having parents and carers on our site more regularly.
End-of-Year Liturgy
Next Wednesday, 16 December, is the final day of school for students. We will hold a liturgy with the students under the COLA, followed by our traditional 'farewell tunnel' which the students and staff who are leaving St John's will walk through as a symbolic way of wishing them well. Once this has concluded, parents are welcome to collect their child. We will open our school gates at 11.30 - 11.45am if you wish to collect your child at that time.
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable week,
Happy Birthday to the following students and staff who are celebrating their birthday this week , December 5th - December 11th

Week 10 Uniform Focus
During the last week of school, teachers will be focusing on the overall appearance of students’ uniforms. On Friday this week we will count up our tokens and announce the winning house for the term. The house with the most tokens will wear their house colour mufti on Monday, receive a Zooper Dooper and have extra play.
Thank you so much for all your support in ensuring your child has been complying with our uniform policy - there has been a significant improvement in the uniform standard, which would not have been possible without your support.
We are aware that a small number of students have been wearing the wrong shoes, socks or have haircuts that do not comply with our policy. We are asking that over the Christmas holiday period these are addressed and that all students return to school fully complying with all aspects of the uniform policy. To assist you, teachers will be sending home notes for the students who need to address an area of concern and assist you when purchasing new items in 2021. As always, please contact the office if you have any questions or concerns.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
Hayley, Erica, Izabell and Jessica from Year 5 have been making loom bands all year! They are hoping to sell them under the Cola on Thursday and Friday during both lunch breaks. All money raised will go to the St Vincent de Paul appeal. Prices range from 50c to $3. Students can buy a ring, bracelet, necklace or make their own. All students are most welcome to just make a donation if they don’t want to buy a loom.
Clothing Pool and Canteen Volunteers
We would like to pass on a huge thank you to Rose for looking after Clothing Pool so well over the years but it is now time for her to pass this on to the next lot of volunteers. If you are interested in helping out in Clothing Pool or in the canteen, please contact the office and we will pass on your information .
We are also in need of good quality clothing pool donations, just drop them into the office and we will pass them on
Any families who are not returning to St John's in 2021, we please ask that you contact the office if you haven't already done so.
Thank you.
Birthday Celebration Sharing Restrictions
Just a reminder that due to Covid restrictions and CEO directives Children are unable to bring in any type of food/gifts for sharing with their class until the end of the 2020 school year.
There is the option of purchasing Zooper Doopers from the canteen for Lunch 2, Just give the canteen a couple of days notice to ensure they have enough, you can order through the office and a bill will be sent home.
Thank you for your understanding with this matter
Due to COVID restrictions parents are currently not allowed on school grounds. We also need to limit the amount of visitors that come into the office, so please only come into the office if necessary.
It is important that you let the office know as soon as possible, via email or phone, if you are picking your child up prior to dismissal (including time). We can then arrange to have them in the office ready for you. Please note that we are unable to arrange collection of your children during break times (11.15am-12 & 1.15pm-2pm) or after 2.30pm without prior notice.
Please do not enter late arrivals or early departures into compass, this needs to be done by the school office.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
To help celebrate the Festive Season, children will be allowed to hand out Christmas cards and/or Candy Canes or other Christmas confectionery as long as they are individually wrapped.
We also encourage children to take these gifts home to consume them.
