Tuesday | 1st February | Students return to school |
Dear Parents/Carers,
Lord God, may we, your people, who look forward to the birthday of Christ experience the joy of salvation and celebrate that feast with love and thanksgiving. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
As we are now in the second week of Advent, we are encouraged to reflect on how we can prepare our hearts for His birthday. In this preparation do we think about how we can encounter our Lord on a daily basis, and not just wait for December 25? God speaks to us and is visible to us in countless ways each day. Does this period of preparation for Christmas help or hinder us in being able to perceive His presence and His voice? And when you do hear Him speak, how do you react?
Christmas Fun Day - Support for refugees
It was certainly a very colourful day at school today with the children dressed in Christmas mufti, and they had a great day engaging in a range of Christmas activities. Thank you for your support of the refugees from Afghanistan via the gold coin donation. What a great way for the children to be reminded of how we can help others during the season of Advent. Just a reminder that if you would like to support these refugee families in other ways, please contact our parish office 4625 8044.
Student reports
Today you will receive information via Compass about accessing your child's Semester 2 report. As a result of the extended period of Remote Learning and the lack of opportunities for teachers to provide quality assessment tasks to determine student learning attainment and/or growth, the report will look different to the one you received at the end of Semester 1. The report this Semester provides information about your child’s participation in learning only. If you would like to dicuss any aspect of your child's report with their teacher, do not hesitate to make contact with the office.
Staffing for 2022
Following on from last week's Newsletter, I can inform you that Miss Clapson has accepted a teaching position at Ruse Public School starting next year. Also, Ms Warren, one of our School Support Officers, is moving to Mudgee with her family and will be working at St Matthew's School. I wish them both every success in these new roles.
In next week's Newsletter we will be able to publish an updated list of staff for 2022. The children will also have the chance next week to meet their new teacher.
Wishing you a safe and happy week,
Paul Moroney
Principal

Thank you
Well what can we say! Thank you, thank you and thank you to the wonderful School Community of St John the Evangelist. We are so overwhelmed by your generosity of donations to the St Vincent De Paul Christmas food and toy appeal. We received so many wonderful items of food and special gifts that will go to families in our community and make their Christmas a much more joyous time. The lady from St Vincent De Paul was in tears with the amount of food and toys that they received from St John the Evangelist and couldn’t thank us enough. We also thank you for your “gold coin” donation towards the “Parish Refugee Fundraiser”. Another great effort by our generous school community.
We thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts.

Coolaman Report with Harri & Mia
Harri Gearside
I made this Coolamon for my baby sister so she understands my culture, which is Gamilaroi. A piece of Grey Gum was cut traditionally from the tree. This doesn’t harm the tree. I used a mutton fish shell to scrape and carve the shape. The ochre colours that I painted with were yellow, red and white. I also painted with charcoal.
Ochre is a type of paint that comes from special rocks and clay and it’s the sweat from Mother Earth. Coolamon is a little bed that the babies sleep in and it’s used as a food platter and for many other uses.
Mia Gray
In Week 4, I started my Coolamon and I ended up finishing in Week 9. In Week 4, Andrew cut out my Coolamon and when I first had it, it was slightly curved but when the process was finished, it ended up being flat.
During the 5 weeks of making my Coolamon, I had to think about designs and what I would want to write. I wrote “Yarri yarraang 2021” which means goodbye 2021.
The designs on my Coolamon were the Aboriginal Flag because I wanted to use something that was meaningful to me. I used black core, which was made with charcoal, ochre and water. I also used red and yellow ochre and water for the Aboriginal flag. The Aboriginal flag is meaningful to me because I found out in Year 3 that I was Aboriginal. I also wrote Mia Gray and Gumbaynggir.
