Farmer Day Fundraiser
This Friday is our 'Farmer Day Fundraiser.' Your child is encouraged to dress as a farmer and to donate a gold coin to support Project Compassion, an annual initiative coordinated by Caritas (https://www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion/). Our focus is on supporting families in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country severely affected by civil war, as they learn to support and sustain themselves through farming.
P & F Association
Last week we had a terrific response to the first P & F Meeting for the year. A new Executive was elected and I thank each member for their commitment of time and talent. There was agreement that the P & F is very much looking forward to being able to organise a number of events this year that will help families to connect with our school community, something that has been difficult during the pandemic. I urge you to find ways in which you can support them in their work.
COVID Safe Measures
In recent weeks we have seen a spike in the number of COVID cases in our school community. Thank you to the parents who have ensured that children are kept home when they have symptoms or have tested positive. I pray that this phase of the pandemic passes quickly and that no one in our community suffers greatly.
We are currently making plans to enable parents to safely attend some of our regular school events. In Term 2, we plan to invite parents to our Friday Awards Assemblies, as well as any Masses and liturgies that we hold. In time, when the number of COVID cases decrease, we can then move to more informal and social events at school.
Kindergarten 2023 Enrolments
If you have a friend or family member who is considering enrolling their child at St John's for Kindergarten 2023, we ask that you encourage them to contact our office for an enrolment form. Ideally we would like all completed forms returned by Friday 8 April.
Staff Professional Development Day
We are giving you advance notice that our staff will have one of its allocated Professional Development days on Monday 2nd May. This will be a pupil-free day.
Wishing you a safe and peaceful week,
THE ANNUNCIATION
On 25 March, we celebrate the feast of the Annunciation. As a Catholic community, we remember when the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would conceive by the Holy Spirit and become the mother of God.
We are continually reminded of the importance of this feast in various devotional prayers. Two examples that highlight the importance of this feast are the joyous mysteries of the Rosary and the Angelus.
The Angelus is an ancient prayer that recalls the events of the Annunciation.
WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY- 21 MARCH
The aim of the ‘Lots of Socks’ campaign is to raise awareness of Down syndrome among the community. This date was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. The idea behind the ‘Lots of Socks’ initiative is acceptance of all our differences, and what makes us unique as an individual. Socks come in all shapes, sizes, and designs, just like each of us here at St John's.
It was wonderful to see so many bright and crazy socks worn by students and teachers last Monday in recognition of this special day.
Kelsey 4B spoke beautifully about this special day at the morning assembly. She taught us all about the chromosomes that cause Down syndrome. Kelsey also spoke about her little sister, Allorah KG, who has Down syndrome and how she makes life very interesting at home.
ASSEMBLIES- FRIDAY AFTERNOON
We are looking forward to welcoming parents and friends back to our afternoon assemblies in the Hall from Term 2. Below are some photos taken from the last K-2 assembly.
MORNING DROP OFF- THANK YOU
Thank you to the parents and carers who have been safely dropping their children off to school in the morning. We ask that you continue to remain vigilant in the car park particularly when walking children to the school gate through this area.

This year's Cross Country will be held at School on Friday 1 April.
- All students will participate in the cross country race, novelty events and cheering in their AGE GROUP (age turned/turning in 2022).
- Students in Kindergarten and Yr 1 will compete in grade groups
- This year we will run competitive and non-competitive races for 8-12 year olds. You are asked to nominate which race they will compete in when giving permission.
- Students who run in the competitive race are also trialing for the School Team to compete in the Diocesan Carnival in Nowra.
- The competitive race will be 2km and the fun run will be 1 lap of the school perimeter.
- As the carnival is a normal school day children are expected to remain at the carnival until dismissal.
- Ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be given out immediately after each competitive race. Medallions and the House Champion Trophy will be presented at a later date
Children are advised to begin preparing for the event as soon as possible with the following tips in mind:
- Run most days for 10-15 mins
- Warm up with stretching exercises and cool down with a gentle walk
- Wear joggers and socks
- Try to breathe through the nose & out of the mouth
- Try to run with a partner
- Choose a run that has grass & some hills
Parent Volunteers
We are in need of MANY parent helpers. If you, or anyone else in the family, are free and available we would greatly appreciate your help. These carnivals cannot run without the support that our parents and friends give.
Due to the COVID Safe Measures, ONLY PARENT HELPERS will be allowed on-site. Unfortunately, having a large group of people on our school site is too great a risk of the further spreading of COVID. Volunteers must sign in via the Office on the morning of the Carnival
ALL STUDENT PERMISSIONS ARE TO BE COMPLETED ON COMPASS BY FRIDAY, MARCH 25
