Dear Parents/Carers,
May God bless all Australians with the willingness to “Get Up!” and support our First Nations’ peoples in their walk towards greater justice, equity, and the proper recognition of their rights. May Christ bless our nation with the courage to “Stand Up!” and acknowledge with pride and gratitude the faithful stewardship of this land by our First Nations’ peoples for over 65,000 years. May the Holy Spirit bless all Australians with the determination to “Show Up!” so that this drive towards a fairer, more caring Australia for all will never “lose momentum for change.”NAIDOC Week 2022 will be held nationally from this Sunday 3 July and continue through to Sunday 11 July 2022.
This year's NAIDOC 2022 theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! a theme that calls for all of us to support and secure institutional, structural, collaborative, and cooperative reforms that ensures the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non‑Indigenous Australians is based on justice, equity, and the proper recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights.
During NAIDOC, we remember the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of our country and celebrate their rich cultures and inspiring contributions to Australia.
At St John's early next term we will acknowledge NAIDOC Week by having an Aboriginal dancer visit the school to run a workshop with all classes. Janelle and Andrew, our Aboriginal Education Assistants, will also be running a Meet and Greet for the parents of our Aboriginal students.
End of Term
I take this opportunity to wish your children a safe, relaxing and 'warm' holiday break. The recent round of academic reports and parent/teacher interviews have highlighted for me the commitment that the children show to their God, their learning and their friendships each day at school. St John's is blessed to have children who genuinely want to create a safe learning environment, and who are prepared to learn from their mistakes. I pray that the two weeks give them the opportunity to recharge their batteries ready for Term 3. If you also happen to get some time away from work and other commitments, I wish you a relaxing time.
Industrial Action
Just a final reminder that staff from our school will engage in protected industrial action tomorrow, 30 June, for the entire school day. This means:
● Limited supervision will be provided at school, classes will not run as normal.
● You may wish to keep your child at home.
● Any absence from school on this day will not impact your child's attendance record.
Wishing you all a happy and safe fortnight,
Paul Moroney
Principal

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY WINTER BREAK
Semester One is coming to a close. It certainly has been a busy first half of 2022. The students and teachers are ready for a well deserved break.
We wish all students and their families a safe and enjoyable winter break. It has been wonderful to have some continuity with student’s learning this semester. We have also been pleased to reconnect with parents and friends at various school events. Our community looks forward to this continuing throughout the remainder of this year. Thank you to our students, parents and friends for their ongoing support.

DOGS CONNECT PROGRAM- SURVEY
Thank you to the students and their families who have completed the ‘Dogs Connect Program Survey’.
It is essential that every family complete this survey to ensure that we can meet the needs of each child in the school. The survey can be accessed by clicking on the link- Dogs Connect Program Survey. We are hoping to have Maple begin the second week of next term but must have the survey completed by families.
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, on Thursday, 21 July 2022, (Term 3, Week 1) an afternoon tea will be organised at 2:20pm to discuss and answer any questions about the Dogs Connect Program with parents and carers.
UNIFORM FOCUS- HOUSE COLOUR COMPETITION
This term we reintroduced our whole school reward system with a focus on uniform.
Each week students are reminded about the uniform focus area every morning and by their classroom teachers. During the week teachers check to make sure that students in their class are following that particular focus on uniform. If they are wearing the correct uniform on a certain day that week, teachers provide students with a token for their House Colour. This token is then placed into the canister outside the Community Room. At the end of the term the tokens are counted and the House Team with the highest amount of tokens is rewarded with a mufti day and zooper dooper.
Yesterday the Year 6 House Captains counted the tokens. The tokens were placed out in rows of ten so they could be counted easily and it could be checked by others for accuracy.
As you are already aware, Therry House (Yellow) had the most number of tokens. If your child was away today, they will still be given an opportunity to wear mufti and have their zooper dooper. Below are the results.
