Dear parents and carers,
Dear God, I come to you asking for your help in keeping me strong and healthy in body, mind and spirit. I thank you that you created me, you know my inner thoughts. You know all of my fears, my hopes and my dreams. You know my past, present and future. Only you know my personality and you know all of my emotional needs. I thank you that you are the source of health in my inner being. When I draw close to you, you add your strength to mine. You help me cope. You guide me. You comfort me. You strengthen me. I pray that you will continue to develop in me the graces that create emotional wellness. Amen.
This week at St John's we have been creating greater awareness for students and staff about their well-being. For the past few years now we have been celebrating 'Well-being Week" to coincide with RUOK Day being held tomorrow. Each day has meant a particular focus for us, from building positive relationships to seeking help when we need it. One of the activities that the children have really enjoyed so far has been a morning 'health hustle' led by some of our Year 6 leaders and Mrs Marshall.
RUOK Day is symobolised by the colour yellow, and so tomorrow the children are able to wear mufti to school, in as much yellow as possible or bright colours.
As educators we know that the well-being of children has a significant impact on their learning. At St John's we have worked hard in supporting the students with their emotional regulation, using the language of the 'zones of regulation.' If a student needs extra support in managing their feelings, we may refer to the services of Rita, our CatholicCare counsellor and Marissa, our Pastoral Support Worker. The key to success is ensuring that our school is supporting and working with you, the parents, in enabling the children to identify and effectively manage their emotions, and to seek help when they need it.

FATHERS DAY LITURGY
We hope that all fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other men in the lives of our children had a Happy Father’s Day last Sunday, 4 September.
At Monday morning’s assembly, Year 1 led a special Father’s Day Liturgy. The students read some beautiful prayers for Fathers. They also highlighted a reading from Luke’s Gospel about the time Joseph was worried about Jesus when he was lost in the temple. Congratulations to the Year 1 students and their teachers for recognising this very special day on behalf of our school community.
Some of our Year 1 students completed the following sentences:

FRUIT AND VEG MONTH & WELL BEING WEEK
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we are currently in the midst of Fruit & Veg Month.
To coincide with this and well being week, we are encouraging all students to bring in their own fruit snacks this Friday, 9 September. On this day, teachers will take their class outside for a class picnic with fruit.
Here is a list of fruits and when they are in season. As you can see Spring is a great time to be eating fruit.
UNIFORM FOCUS- HOUSE COLOUR COMPETITION
Once again this term we have held our House Colour Competition focusing on uniforms for our whole school reward system.
Each week students are reminded about the uniform focus area every morning during the assembly. During the week teachers check to make sure that students in their class are following that particular focus on uniform. If they are wearing the correct uniform on a certain day that week, teachers provide students with a token for their House Colour. This token is then placed into the canister outside the Community Room.
The winning house will be announced on Tuesday, 20 September. The reward will be provided for students in the winning house on Thursday, 22 September. On this day students from the winning house will be rewarded with a mufti day and zooper dooper.
