Dear Parents/Carers,
Loving Creator,
I feel the pace quicken, the time draw near.
I am filled with joy as I move toward Easter and the promised reconciliation with you.
Teach me to follow the example of your Son,
to be worthy of being called one his people.
Help me to live each day as he did, turning hatred to love and conflict to peace.
I await the new life with eagerness, faith and a deep gratitude.
Amen
If you attended Mass on the weekend, you may have noticed the priest wearing pink or rose coloured garments. This was in recognition of Laetere Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent. Laetere means 'rejoice' in Latin and so, similarly with the third Sunday in Advent, the Church expresses hope and joy in the midst of our Lenten fasts and penances. The change in colour indicates a glimpse of the joy of Easter.
Fittingly, on Monday Miss Costello and myself attended a workshop facilitated by Fr Timothy Radcliffe, a well known preacher and speaker, who advocates all that is good about Christianity and how friendship with one another can bring about the joy of the Risen Lord.
Enrolments for Kindergarten 2025
It may seem early in the year to be including information about enrolments for 2025, however we will be holding interviews for next year's Kindergarten enrolments during May. Applications need to be submitted prior to 12 April and are completed online. A link to the application form is on our school's website. There have been occasions in the past where families already in our school forget to submit applications for Kindergarten. To avoid any last minute stress, please commence the application as soon as possible.
Enrolments for Year 7 Wollongong Catholic Education Schools
For those of you who are looking to enrol your child in one of the Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong schools for Year 7 2025 (John Therry, Mt Carmel or Magdalene Catholic Colleges), you are also advised to submit an application as soon as possible and before 12 April. It is also advisable to enrol in more than one, especially if your preference is a school outside of the Parish in which you live. Please contact the schools directly for any further information.
Please note that St Patrick's College and St Gregory's College are not part of the Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong system of schools and therefore have their own enrolment procedures. You would need to contact them for any information.
Wishing you a safe and blessed week,
POLICE LIAISON TO DISCUSS ONLINE SAFETY- RESCHEDULED
Senior Constable Michel’s visit has been rescheduled for Thursday, 21 March to meet with our Stage 2 & 3 students to discuss online safety. This will be an important opportunity for students to learn more about these issues when they are engaged in an online environment.
NAPLAN
Each year the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
NAPLAN is just one part of our school learning assessment program. The tests assess literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school. (NSW Education Standards Authority, 2024)Our Years 3 & 5 students will complete NAPLAN over the next week. The schedule is below:
Writing |
Wednesday, 13 March |
Reading |
Thursday, 14 March |
Language Conventions |
Monday, 18 March |
Numeracy |
Tuesday, 19 March |
With the assistance of parents and carers, we would ask that the children’s iPad’s be fully charged on the morning of these days. They also require their headphones as well.We are thinking of our Year 3 & 5 students over the coming week as they demonstrate their knowledge and skills in literacy and numeracy.
ST PATRICK’S DAY
People all over the world celebrate on the 17 March, in honour of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Some cities have parades and many people wear green. However, not everyone may know who St. Patrick is.
Born in Britain during the 4th century, St. Patrick was kidnapped and made a slave by Irish raiders when he was a teenager. He was able to escape after six years and become a priest in Britain. He later chose to return to Ireland as a missionary, in order to help spread the teachings of Christianity to those who did not know about God. According to Irish folklore, he also used a shamrock to explain the Christian concept of Trinity- God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to the Irish people. He stayed in Ireland for 30 years and helped build churches and schools. He died on 17 March and was made a Saint by the local church.
