Spring is a metaphor for change. Some changes we eagerly await, and some we don't. Some changes we plan and others arrive uninvited. To all these changes we ask the gift of Your perspective beckoning us to expectation, hope, and rebirth.
May the sunlight and the rain be reminders that You are at work renewing the earth. As a God of renewal, You are ever at work in our lives, too.
Open our eyes and lives to the needed changes in our lives this Spring. Awaken us to new life and perspective, for we pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen
Dear Parents and Carers,
As the prayer above indiactes, we are certainly in a period of transition with the weather. I love the obvious signs that this brings - buds on trees and bushes, the lengthening of sunlight each day, more birdlife. For some, it can place a 'spring' in their step and give a renewed sense of hope. It also brings to life God's creation and how, in a country like ours, we get to experience so much of its variety, colour and vibrancy.
We also continue to sit in the church season of Ordinary Time. This is a perfect time to embrace the moments when our lives seem settled and 'ordinary' so that we have the emotional and physical energy to cope when, inevitably, there will be change or events that are out of the ordinary. At school, we are also sitting in a period of time when there are not too many things happening that are out of the ordinary. Experience shows us that most children enjoy times that are predictable and consistent, and there is no doubt that there is greater growth in learning when classes have periods of time without too much disruption. Significant whole school events are important to help enhance our community, and at St John's we try as much as possible to schedule them in a way that provides stretches of 'ordinary time.'
Last day of Term 3
SCHOOL PRIDE HOUSE COMPETITION
In Week 10, our School Pride House Competition will be awarded to the students who have collected the most tokens for their house by consistently wearing the correct uniform and participating in Waste Free Wednesday this term.
The winning house will be announced on Monday, 23 September via Compass and at Tuesday morning’s assembly. The reward will take place on Wednesday, 25 September. On this day students from the winning house will be rewarded with a mufti day and Zooper Dooper.
CHRISTMAS STORY ART COMPETITION
Some of our Stage 3 students have been demonstrating their creativity and talents this term completing their pieces of the Christmas Story Art Competition. Ms Polsen has worked with the students in supporting them to create their artworks. We wish those students who were selected the very best of luck in this competition across the Wollongong Diocese.
BASKETBALL GALA DAYS
On Thursday, 19 September & Friday, 20 September, we will have teams from Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 respectively, representing St John’s at the Western Region Basketball Gala Day. We wish the students the very best on the Court and encourage them all to be safe, responsible, organised and respectful. But most importantly to have fun!
The day is non-competitive to cater for children of all abilities. Teams have been selected based on preferences given by children earlier in the year. The aim is to give everyone an opportunity to participate, regardless of skill or ability.
We look forward to finding out all about the Gala Day after the event. A special thank you to Ms Glen (Thursday), Mrs Lucas (Thursday & Friday) & Mr Zamroz (Friday) for supporting the students at the Gala Day. We also thank the parents and carers in
anticipation of their support on the day.
