Lord, I find hope in Your unfailing love.
Your love is a rock I can stand upon, and it never wavers. Even in the midst of trials and tribulations, I am secure in Your love.
Fill me with hope, that I may face each day with confidence and trust in You.
In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen
The theme of the prayer above is of hope. This is to deliberately align with the Jubilee Year in our church. A Jubilee Year, or Holy Year, is traditionally proclaimed every 25 years as a time of grace, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal. It invites the faithful to embark on pilgrimages, seek repentance, forgive others, and deepen their relationship with God.
This year, Pope Francis has declared the theme of this Jubilee Year as "Pilgrims of Hope," saying ‘We must fan the flame of hope that has been given to us and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision. The forthcoming Jubilee can contribute greatly to restoring a climate of hope and trust as a prelude to the renewal and rebirth that we so greatly desire’.
As a staff, we have been speaking about how we can bring about 'purposeful hope' - knowing what our hopes are for the students, and then working with purpose to bring those to hopes to fruition. As Pope Francis wants us to actively 'fan the flame,' we too must actively work toward the hopes that we have for 2025. I pray that the hopes you have for your family this year are brought to life.
Meet & Greet sessions
An important aspect of ensuring we are meeting your child's needs is to maintain positive communication with you, as parents and carers. We are organising time for a 'Meet & Greet' session between yourselves and your child's classroom teacher next week (17-21 February). This will give you an opportunity to share with the teacher information about your child which would be valuable in knowing to support their learning and faith development. A form was sent home for you to complete which will assist in directing the conversation that you have, and instructions for booking a session have been pushed out on the Compass app.
Attendance
Further to information provided last week about attendance requirements, you are asked to read carefully the information contained in the following documents.
STUDENT LEADERS
It is wonderful to be recognised for leadership qualities. We have had many students from years 1- 6 recognised for such qualities by their peers and teachers. We will have an opportunity to congratulate the children who have been selected as Class Captains for Term 1 at our Monday morning assembly on 17 February. The list of Term 1 Class Captains will be posted on Compass this Friday. This will hopefully give parents and carers to get photos of their children receiving their Class Captain badges.
Our Year 6 leaders will also be recognised at our Opening School Mass under the COLA on Friday, 21 February at 10am. At the Mass they will receive their badges and recite our pledge, as a promise to serve and represent the school with pride. We thank them in anticipation for their commitment in their roles throughout the year.
We are confident that our student leaders will be great examples for others and continue to demonstrate our Good Samaritan values.

KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS MAKE A WONDERFUL START
Our newest and youngest learners have made a fantastic start to their journey at St John’s! The Kindergarten students have settled in beautifully, making new friends, exploring their classrooms and embracing new routines with enthusiasm.
From storytelling and hands-on activities, to outdoor play, the children are already engaging in a rich learning environment that nurtures curiosity and confidence. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been delighted to see their excitement and eagerness to learn each day.
We are so proud of our Kindergarten students and look forward to a wonderful year ahead.
KISS AND DROP REMINDERS
The safety of all students and community members is of the highest priority. When using the ‘Kiss and Drop’ area of the car park in the morning, we ask that you remember the following:
- Parents/Carers must remain in the car at all times.
- Students must exit the doors via the left hand side only
- Bags need to be with students, ready for a quick and smooth exit from the car
- Students may only exit the car when it has stopped parallel to the school fence
Please continue to show courtesy to all users by following these procedures.
MEET & GREETS
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, during Week 4 (17-21 February) we will be holding our Meet & Greet sessions. This is an extremely important opportunity for classroom teachers to gain further insights about children from parents/carers.
Each meeting will be scheduled for 10 minutes. Our late night will be on Monday, 17 February, with the final meeting taking place at 6:50pm. If you need longer than 10 minutes to discuss your child please don’t hesitate to arrange another meeting with your child’s classroom teacher.
This week, parents and carers, through a Compass notification, have been able to book their appointment online to meet with their child’s classroom teacher. PLEASE NOTE THAT BOOKINGS WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAY, 16 FEBRUARY AT APPROXIMATELY 5pm.
We look forward to working in partnership with parents and carers to support the learning and well being of our students.
DONATIONS TO SUPPORT A FAMILY WHO HAVE LOST EVERYTHING
We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support. A family in our community lost everything in a devastating fire last Christmas Eve, and they need our help to rebuild their lives. To protect the privacy and dignity of the student and their family they wish that names not be mentioned.
We are collecting monetary donations as well as essential items such as clothing and household goods. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference in their recovery.
A ‘GoFundMe’ page has been created to assist with monetary donations for the family. The link is below:
If you have any items below that you would be able to give, please email/contact the office with your name, contact number and what you would like to donate. We will then pass your contact number onto the family so they will make direct contact with you to organise how the donation(s) can be handed over.

Our School Cross Country Carnival has had to be scheduled earlier than we had planned due to Hurley Park being closed for resurfacing during parts of March and April. It is going to be held on Friday 14 March.
One of the main purposes of the carnival is to conduct the competitive races in order to select our representative team, which involves our Year 3-6 students. There will also be non-competitive races. Kindergarten-Year 2 students will be involved at some point during the day to help make it a whole school community event. We will provide an outline of the carnival closer to the day.
