Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Last Sunday at Mass, we heard from the Gospel of Luke where the friends of Jesus saw a glimpse of his humanity and divinity.
“Jesus took with him Peter and John and James and went up the mountain to pray.
As he prayed, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing became brilliant as lightning”.
This would have caused Peter, John and James to see Jesus in a different way, unlike they had every really seen him before. They were probably left somewhat confused and amazed. They also heard a voice at that time saying, “This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to Him”. This glimpse into the relationship between Jesus and God would have enabled Peter, John and James to see the deep connection between the two. This confirmed the deep interconnection between God and Jesus. At our baptism we also become children of God. We too are called to be in relationship with God and Jesus.
The Gospel of Luke challenges us to our own moments of transfiguration, when we are called to see others in a different light as Jesus would. This is not an easy road to take as we need to perhaps show forgiveness, compassion and understanding. Through the example of Jesus we are challenged to see glimpses of divinity in the everyday human moments of our lives. Jesus himself experienced moments of abandonment and isolation, just as we sometimes do.
The Gospel also reminds us that we never journey alone. Like Jesus, we have companions who are with us through all the ups and downs that life can bring. We also need to remain open to experience moments of transfiguration in the ordinary moments that can change into the extra-ordinary with the help of Jesus.
Please find an insert in today’s newsletter explaining the NCCD (Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability). Please take the time to read this information.
This initiative has been established to collect data on the extent of students with learning difficulties or disabilities and medical needs that are present across the country.
The Commonwealth Government is hoping to use the survey data to better understand the level of need in the school community, hopefully leading to further resources to assist schools in meeting the range of diverse learning needs within their schools.
Data is being collected from students who have a Personalised Plan and require some additional adjustments to learning so as to allow them to access the curriculum.
The school will send this data from your child’s personal plan to the Commonwealth Government as part of the National Data Collection.
The only data the Commonwealth Government will receive through this process will be information relating to your child’s particular needs and the provisions the school has in place to support him or her. No personal information specific to the child or family will be disclosed.
If you have any questions in relation to this collection please speak to Mrs Webb, Mrs Billett or Mrs Libro.
Thanking you for your continued support

Harmony Day - Thursday 21st March
At St John’s, we aim to create a safe and supportive school community for everyone. This week, we celebrate Harmony Week.
Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. On Thursday, the students are invited to incorporate a splash of orange into the uniform e.g ribbon or socks.
By following our school rules, policies and procedures we all play our part in ensuring that as a community we live in harmony and respect for one another.
Cupcakes for Compassion - Lenten Fundraiser
In order to raise money for Project Compassion during Lent, St John’s is holding a cake sale every Tuesday at Lunch 1 for the next two weeks.
Yesterday students from Stage Three were responsible for providing the cupcakes for the fundraiser and they did a fantastic job! We were overwhelmed with cupcakes. Thank you to the students and familiesyou’re your generous donations.
Students from Stage Two (Years 3 and 4) will be responsible for bringing the cupcakes to school next Tuesday.
Thank you Years 5 and 6 for helping us to remember that we give Lent 100%.

The Kindness Corner: Kindness is free officially launched
We are happy to announce that Kindness is Free is well underway.
This proactive whole-school initiative has been developed by our school counsellors to promote positive wellbeing, thinking of others and community spirit.
Each class is taking part by recording their acts of kindness on paper links and placing them in a kindness jar. Every act of kindness will be added to a paper chain that will wrap around our school by the end of the year.
As part of the initiative, we will have fundraising days, classroom activities and acts of kindness will be celebrated as part of the Good Samaritan awards. We have also set up the Kindness Corner which will feature in each newsletter. Here we will share ideas about how you can support your child and grow kindness at home.
To get the ball rolling, we ask you to discuss kindness with your children and share your meaning and understanding of the word. Take some time to discuss with one another some acts of kindness that you have appreciated. All acts of kindness are valued no matter how small: a kind word or smile, helping around the house, sharing with siblings, patting the dog. There are opportunities for kindness everywhere!
We hope that this initiative will take on a life of its own spreading through our school, out the gates and into our community. Your help at home is much appreciated.
In a world where you can be anything, be kind!
