Dear Parents and Carers,
Entering and Exiting the School
Parents are encouraged to remain vigilant when using the pedestrian crossings around the school site. This increased awareness is particularly encouraged during the peak times of the school day, when students are arriving or leaving the school. We encourage parents to always use the pedestrian crossing with their child/ren. It is helpful to try to use this time as a teachable moment. Make children aware of the safety required when crossing the road.
I am certain that all parents would agree that the safety and security of all children is a priority and is of the utmost importance. Therefore, it is deeply concerning whenever the safety and security of any of our children at St John the Evangelist is compromised.
School car parks are also a major risk factor for children
- They are very busy places, with many distractions and everybody seems to be in a hurry.
- Pedestrian injuries can be severe and are a significant cause of child disability.
Campbelltown City Council and local Police make regular, random spot checks as part of an ongoing program for road safety. Please ensure signage around the school is followed to avoid fines and demerit points.
We request that parents always act in the best interests of safety within our parking and pedestrian zones.
How should adults behave around car parks and schools
- Slow down
Be extra vigilant even in car parks. And the child could be yours or a close friend’s!
- Watch out
Children can move very quickly. And your reaction time is unlikely to be fast enough.
- Obey the signs!
Car park/ pedestrian signs are there to help you and the children. Obey them!
- Set a good example!
Please reinforce the school’s safety messages – the life you save might be your own child’s.
Avoid walking through the Church car park completely by using the footpaths or by using the Lindesay Street gates.
- Take time!
Do not rush in and around schools. Time and patience gives you flexibility to act properly.
- Beat the rush!
Give yourself plenty of time to arrive at school before the bell. This makes for a more settled start to a day of learning.
PLEASE MAKE SAFETY AT OUR SCHOOL A PRIORITY
Campbelltown Council has been recently engaged to complete a Road Safety Analysis of the school site.
This will provide important information and analysis of ways we can improve arrival and dismissal processes, for the safety of all the students at St John’s.
Please also be mindful that the presbytery is for the parking of parishioners and visitors only.
Thank you for your vigilance in ensuring the safety of all of our students when driving around the school.

Acting Principal
Students arriving to school late
Parents are asked to accompany children into the school office if they are arriving late so that they are able to be signed in by office staff. This is to ensure the safety of children. Thank you for accommodating this request.
Next Tuesday 2nd April, is World Autism Day. This is a day where we recognise the individuality and giftedness of all people with autism. To help promote awareness about the individual giftedness that people bring to our school community, next Tuesday all students are requested to wear a bright t-shirt to school. This can be worn with the school uniform. This will help to make the school bright and colourful.
Positive Partnerships is a wonderful resource that promotes working together to support school aged children who are on the autism spectrum. It contains a wealth of resources to support parents and teachers.

Thank you to the parents and carers who have been able to provide cupcakes for sale during Lent.
This helps to raise much-needed funds that will go to Project Compassion.
Yesterday we had a wonderful response from Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) students. There was even enough cupcakes to have more for sale today (Wednesday).
Next Tuesday 2nd April students from Stage One (Years 1 and 2) are asked to bring in cupcakes that will be sold by the Year 6 students at Lunch One.
Thank you for your continued support which helps to promote almsgiving and a sense of compassion for others with the students during the season of Lent.
Our school will hold it's annual Cross Country Carnival on Monday 8th April at Mount Carmel Catholic College.
All students must arrive at school for normal bell time in the morning. After morning routine and class rolls have been marked, students will be transported to the venue by bus with their class groups. Students may wear a coloured t-shirt to represent their house colour.
Parent helpers are still required. If you are able to spare some of your time on this day, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
A copy of the day's scheduled is attached for your convenience.
Year 5 Girls visit St Patricks Ladies College for a day!
Last Thursday, girls from St John’s visited St Patrick's College. At the start of the day, we met the Principal. We formed groups and got to do activities in Science, PDHPE and even Japanese!
The girls had a lot of fun and we all had a really great day.
I thought that St Pat’s seemed like a really good school and the teachers were very welcoming.
